Description:

The Senior Conservation Officer is part of a small team managing permit application assessments and providing advice and training to infrastructure agencies and other Wet Tropics stakeholders on the protection and management of the World Heritage Area.As the Senior Conservation Officer, you will: - Assess applications for permits in accordance with the provisions of the Wet Tropics Management Plan 1998.- Undertake environmental assessment of development proposals within and adjacent to the World Heritage Area.- Provide training to State and local government personnel and review agencies training programs in relation to the Wet Tropics Management Plan 1998- Undertake investigations and report on activities that may be in breach of the provisions of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Protection and Management Act 1993 and the Wet Tropics Management Plan 1998.- Lead and participate in projects related to conservation and management of the World Heritage Area.- Produce and review technical reports using scientific/technical knowledge, legislation, policy and guidelines relating to the conservation of world heritage areas.- Foster a workplace culture that supports and promotes the interests of First Nations people and actively engage through our work to contribute to better outcomes of First Nations people.This role is open to all applicants; however, priority consideration will be given to applicants who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and meet the minimum requirements for the role.Applications to remain current for 12 months.Job Ad Reference: QLD/584520/24Closing Date: Thursday, 05 September 2024This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Australia License
