JOB DESCRIPTION

U.S. Bank’s Law Division is seeking an experienced attorney who is authorized to practice law in the United States and is in good standing with the appropriate U.S. state-licensing authority, to join its in-house legal team to provide legal support to Elavon, U.S. Bank’s global merchant acquiring business. This position supports the Elavon North America business development team and reports to the Elavon senior legal team. The successful candidate will be expected to work at an Elavon office three or more days per week.
In connection with the Elavon business development team, this position (1) supports the team during the acquisition of partners (including but not limited to independent software vendors; independent sales organizations; fintech, and fourth party relationships) in the negotiation and drafting of agreements; (2) supports the creation, use and review of various ecommerce platforms; (3) supports the submission of RFPs for ISOs, ISV, referral, and payment facilitator relationships); (4) drafts, updates and maintains contracts used by the various business development teams.
This position’s roles include providing legal counsel to Elavon’s Business Development team during the negotiation process and providing information to the team to frame the analysis of business decisions; drafting and negotiating complex medium to large customer and partner agreements; drafting, updating and maintaining contract templates; advising on compliance with legal requirements; providing legal advice for new technology products/services related to use with Elavon partners; and liaising with outside counsel as directed by the senior legal team.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Licensed by and in good standing with the appropriate state bar association or other appropriate state attorney licensing authority

PREFERRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • At least 5 recent years of experience practicing law in an in-house legal department or at a law firm advising business clients in a full-time attorney position
  • Experience in negotiating and drafting agreements with customers and partners
  • Excellent verbal and written skills; ability to communicate complex legal concepts in layman terms with both internal clients and external customers
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Well-developed leadership abilities and time management skills
  • Client management, diplomacy, and people skills
  • Experience with payment services and financial services regulations is desirable
