Description:

Reporting to the Vice President, Contracting and Regulatory Compliance, the primary role of the Senior Counsel, Strategic Markets is to oversee the development and negotiation of the Company’s contracting efforts for its Strategic Markets (SM) vertical, including (a) working inter-departmentally to build policies, procedures and templates for contracting processes for the SM vertical, and (b) working with external SM Clients in drafting and negotiation of all SM Client contracts. This role is a player/coach role, with both hands-on drafting and negotiation components, as well as development of team members. This is an exciting opportunity for a forward-thinking professional who is ready and able to exercise independent judgment, think creatively, and partner with internal and external clients to enable the Company’s success.

Essential Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Partner with client-facing teams to develop customized templates and implement contracting processes for each type of SM Client (e.g., TPAs, municipalities, Labor Unions, Hospitals, etc.)
  • Lead all Legal team efforts for execution and maintenance of SM Client Contracting, including drafting and negotiation
  • Provide general legal support for company operations and contract negotiations, such as researching and analyzing federal and state laws related to contracts
  • Supervise and develop attorneys, paralegals, and other support staff
  • Provide legal support on various company projects and initiatives as directed

Required Skills / Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree, Juris Doctorate, and active member in good standing of at least one State Bar Association
  • A minimum of 8 years of directly applicable legal experience, including contract drafting and negotiation
  • Excellent legal research and writing, organizational, teamwork and communications skills
  • Experience in managing and directing a team
  • Self-motivated, high attention to detail
  • Able to manage a dynamic environment with multiple priorities

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Experience with building overseas legal support functions
