We’re looking for a skilled and experienced Data Analyst to join the Center for Infectious Disease Modeling & Analytics and Training Hub (CIDMATH). CIDMATH is one of 13 Centers funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to improve outbreak response using data, modeling, and advanced analytics for ongoing and future infectious disease threats and public health emergencies. You will work on CIDMATH projects, as well as provide data management for other projects. Our focus includes developing methods, tools, and integrating existing and novel data streams for infectious disease modeling, coupled with offering state-of-the-art training for the modeling community.

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Data Analyst, you will be a key player in the development and implementation of CIDMATH’s infectious disease (ID) data hub. The ID data hub will gather and prepare for large-scale analysis data from various disparate sources, including survey data, electronic health records, public health surveillance, and mobility sources. Your primary task, with collaboration and support from the lead data scientist, will be to bring together multiple data streams for use in infectious disease outbreak analysis and modeling. Specifically, you will support development of the data infrastructure and analytical outputs from the ID data hub and undertake analysis of data generated from the hub. This role offers an exciting opportunity for a data enthusiast to play a central role in a highly innovative team of researchers and to directly impact public health practice.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, and three years of experience in processes and standards related to data, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience with relational database management systems such as, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL preferred.
  • Experience with statistical packages such as, SAS, SPSS, R preferred.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree and one year of data analysis and computing experience associated with database management systems OR a bachelor’s degree and three years of data analysis and computing experience associated with database management systems.
  • Proficiency in at least one program language such as R or Python and collaboration through GitHub.
  • Experience with Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL strongly preferred
  • Master’s degree in Data Science, Epidemiology, Computer Science or related field.
  • Previous experience managing complex data sets including electronic medical records and public health surveillance data.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to translate complex questions into analytical solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills to convey complex technical findings to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience with dashboarding and data visualization using code-based (R/Python libraries) or tool-based (Tableau, PowerBI, etc.) approaches.
  • Experience with mapping and spatial analysis using code-based (R/Python libraries) or tool-based (ESRI, QGIS, etc.) approaches.
  • Experience working in Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or Microsoft Azure cloud platforms.
    NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.

Responsibilities:

  • Supports the acquisition, management and analysis of data from multiple sites or sources.
  • Supports the configuration and management of technology solutions supporting the receipt, transformation, validation and storage of data.
  • Ensures that the uses of data through reports and queries are appropriate.
  • Serves as an organizational consultant on matters relating to databases by providing expertise to assist users in meeting their needs.
  • Develops automated quality control procedures to assess quality of data and provides reports to data owners.
  • Works effectively within a group setting in areas of design of data collection instruments, database management, analysis of data, and creation of reports and dashboards.
  • Develops and performs appropriate analyses.
  • Provides explanations of analysis methods, assumptions made, and assists in interpretation of results and implications therein.
  • Documents methods and results through development and maintenance of standard documentation artifacts including data dictionaries, standard operating procedures and analysis methodology descriptions.
  • Works with onsite or field-based counterparts to coordinate consistent implementation of data quality control measures and provision of access to the central data repositories.
  • Performs related responsibilities as assigned.
