DESCRIPTION

As a Senior Data Engineer at Silverstone Circuits, you will be a crucial member of our team, responsible for the planning, execution and collaboration of our data cabling, fiber network, comms rooms, cabinets across our entire site. You will contribute to the success of our network by ensuring all data needs are met efficiently and professionally.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE

  • Positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills, and logical problem-solving abilities.
  • Proven experience in networking setups and changes for live events.
  • Proficient understanding and operational knowledge of networks and data cabling, with troubleshooting abilities.
  • At least 10 years experience in fiber networking.
  • At least 10 years experience in cabinet design, data cabling, termination.
  • Flexibility in working hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Valid UK driving license.
  • Professional presentation and excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially with external clients.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Capacity to work as part of a team, as well as independently and manage workload effectively.

Responsibilities:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working with the Head of IT and key members of the Infrastructure Team, planning the cabling, fiber, comms rooms, nodes, cabinets and any other data areas layout for the short-, medium- and long-term.
  • Lead the preparation and setup of any extra areas for live event days.
  • Lay out and plan with the Head of IT and IT Team the maintenance, investment and resultant projects to do with the site network.
  • Collaborate with the team to enhance event delivery through data engineering expertise.
  • Maintain and service various network equipment to meet company health and safety standards.
  • Report equipment issues and propose solutions to Head of IT.
  • Take responsibility for the entire fiber network and enhance mapping of said network.
  • Collaborate with the team to enhance all network equipment under-, and above, ground, in comms rooms, around site and all nodes.
  • Collaborate with the team to work towards more cutting-edge technologies around the site. To include Grandstands, buildings, and anywhere technology needs improvements.
  • Conduct first-line fault-finding on network equipment during events.
  • Ensure proper de-rig of equipment after events to maintain venue appearance.
  • Assist in updating venue guides and operational manuals as needed.
  • Contribute to diary management systems to share event information.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with other departments to ensure successful event delivery.
  • Liaise with external suppliers to meet client requirements as the main point of contact.
  • Anticipate client needs and take appropriate action in a timely manner.
  • Perform tasks to support the wider circuit infrastructure.
  • To document the data cabling infrastructure layout across the site to aid activity planning, reduce single points of failure and to identify issues more efficiently.

TEAM RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in daily/weekly team meetings to organise event setup and takedown.
  • Identify areas requiring investment and assist the Head of IT in budget preparation.
  • Foster a positive, proactive department culture and environment.
  • Promote the professional image of the company through high standards of professionalism and presentation.
  • Thoughtfully escalate issues to the team.
  • Identify your own training needs to fulfil your role.
  • Provide meaningful support and feedback to the IT team.
  • Assist in training junior team members to maintain work quality and skill standards.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Performance will be monitored against the following:

  • Objectives set through the Personal Development Review (PDR) process
  • Ownership and completion of agreed business objectives.
