(SENIOR) DATA SCIENTIST (F/M/D)

Responsibilities & Qualifications:
Novelis is looking for a (Senior) Data Scientist to join our Global Digital Team with a focus on Supply Chain and Operations. In this role you will be responsible for applying advanced statistical analysis tools and Advanced Analytics techniques such as Machine Learning, Mathematical Optimization, Simulation, Computer Vision to explain operating behaviors, understand complex relationships between known and unknown drivers of performance, and build algorithms using advanced descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive methods. This will aid in the optimization of operations by improving the plant operating team’s ability to predict, prevent, or respond to events and/or operating conditions in the most optimal manner.

Location Profile:
Novelis’ Sierre is located in the Valais Switzerland employing around 550 people. It mainly focuses on production of aluminium sheet for the automotive market covering the entire process from casting to finishing. The plant also hosts a world-leading Research & Innovation Center specialized in the development of new automotive sheet alloys surface treatment and joining technologies. In Feburary 2022 together with research institutions and a local energy provider Novelis founded the Net Zero Lab Valais to develop carbon-neutral solutions for aluminium manufacturing. The lab focuses on identifying and implementing innovative solutions to neutralize the carbon footprint of Novelis’ manufacturing operations and neighboring communities starting in Sierre. The Sierre plant supports its community through direct sponsorship of many annual events promoting education sports and culture

Responsibilities:

  • You collaborate with translators to define technical problem statements and hypothesis to test as well as understanding business problems to implement scalable and sustainable solutions
  • You coordinate with SMEs, translators, IT and data engineers to deliver holistic analytical solutions
  • You design, create, test and implement complex models and algorithms that drive analytical solutions throughout the organization
  • You regularly test and maintain analytical models to improve efficiency and keep up with changing business needs, ensuring timely analysis and testing for regular maintenance of solutions over time
  • You write reports articulating the analytics insights and their business impact
  • You conduct and lead meetings and workshops to explain findings
  • You support translators in communicating the design, functioning and output of the analytical models and solutions developed
