At Tesco Technology, we have an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Senior Data Scientist with strong stakeholder management and influencing skills!
Join our team and take the lead in redesigning our customers engagement on our groceries website. By applying sophisticated technologies like semantic search and transformer models, and playing a pivotal role in improving the search functionality for millions of customers across multiple countries. This position allows someone to quickly make a meaningful impact and contribute to the seamless operation of our supply chain, transport, and delivery operations.

This role can be based out of either our London (Farringdon) office or Welwyn Garden City office, offering the flexibility of hybrid working. Spend three days a week in the office and the remainder working from home.
You will be responsible for

As a Senior Data Scientist, you will be working within a large team of data scientists with different expertises within the statistical, machine learning and operational research domains. As a data scientist you might be working on any area of the business supported by the team at any time, even though you will be focusing on a single area/project at the time.

  • Use your analytical mindset to find solutions to complex problems.
  • Understand difficult business problems and prototype solutions with minimal support.
  • Apply, modify and design algorithms and mathematical models to solve business problems on top of big data architectures is a core component of the role.
  • Validate, document and present the modeling process and performances, as well as communicate sophisticated solutions in a clear, understandable way to non-experts.
  • Promoting data science across Tesco and promote Tesco across the external Data Science community.

You will need
We are looking for ambitious individuals with a mix of statistics, programming and machine learning skills. The role requires that you have an extensive background in machine learning and data mining. A track record in modifying and crafting sophisticated algorithms and applying them to large data sets is crucial.
An ideal candidate will have a scientific mentality with the ability to ask the right questions, as well as answer them. A strong numerical higher degree in a mathematical, scientific, engineering or computer science discipline is preferable, as well as a solid understanding of mathematics and statistical principles.
Experience in one or more of the following fields is required: predictive modelling, operational research, deep learning and time series modelling. Finally, strong programming experience (Python is preferred).
A senior candidate will need to have commercial experience in working with business stakeholders, record of technical leadership as well as exposure to supervision, mentoring and upskilling of more junior professionals.
