Job Title: Senior Database Developer

Reports To: Director, Risk & Portal
Full Time/Part Time: Full Time
Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. CST/CDT

POSITION SUMMARY:

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced SQL Database & SSIS developer to join our team and play an important role in designing, developing, and enhancing our backend data integration and data movement processes in an established financial services firm.
The successful candidate will collaborate with peers and business analysts to understand and execute complex data integrations. They will be responsible for the full lifecycle of SSIS package development, from requirements gathering and design to implementation, testing and deployment. Additionally, this resource will support these capabilities and make ongoing improvements to existing packages to address functional and non-functional requirements.
The successful candidate will collaborate with other developers within the Application Development department and IT teams and interact with business analysts. Additionally, this candidate will work with the firm’s tier 2 support teams to diagnose and resolve production issues.
Duties & Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Gathering and analyzing data integration requirements from internal business and technical stakeholders.
  • Designing, developing, and deploying robust SSIS packages for data extraction, transformation, loading, and synchronization across internal databases. Includes consuming and producing data from/to external customers including exchanges, industry regulators and third-party platforms.
  • Designing, developing, and deploying SSRS-based reports for internal distribution.
  • Crafting complex packages, stored procedures, functions, tables, views, triggers, indexes, constraints, etc.
  • Implementing error handling, logging, and monitoring as standard features within SSIS packages.
  • Applying strong knowledge of database design, normalization concepts, primary and foreign key constraints.
  • Conducting performance tuning and query optimization using Performance Monitor, SQL Profiler and other related monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Applying knowledge of how indexes are structured, how statistics work and affect query plans, how indexes are stored, how they can be created and managed effectively.
  • Using other common SQL Server tools (Profiler, SSIS, SSMS, PerfMon, DMVs).
  • Processing incoming data in common formats such as JSON and XML.
  • Documenting SSIS package designs, data flows, and processes for knowledge transfer and maintenance.
  • Providing guidance and support to application developers including promoting database design and implementation best practices.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experienced in working with Visual Studio Database Projects and SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT).
  • Comfortable working both independently and within small project teams.
  • Capable of producing documentation around designs, processes, and procedures.
  • Proven abilities to investigate, diagnose and resolve production incidents raised by tier 2 support, often also involving other developers during the process.
  • Experience working in financial services or another regulated environment is a plus.
  • 5+ years experience in designing, developing, and deploying SSIS packages for complex data integration scenarios within a Microsoft-centric environment, including SQL Server.
  • Demonstrated expertise in working in a complex business and technical environment.
  • Keen analytic and problem-solving skills.
  • Articulate individual who can interact with developers, technologists, and business stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of SSIS architecture, components, and best practices.
