Description:

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Lead the design and development of allocated switchgear projects, under the direction of the Engineering Team Lead and Principal Engineers. Accountable for the application of DFx (Design for Excellence, Cost, Manufacture, Assembly, Test) to all product developments. Prepare and schedule internal and external testing: Lead testing both internally and at external laboratories. Striving to achieve cost effective solutions, of the highest quality, and on time to budget.
  • Accountable for working with all other Engineering teams to resolve product issues; collaborating with all other teams in Lucy Electric to ensure effective problem solving - with a focus on meeting customer needs and profitability in a timely manner.
  • Accountable for determining plans and mechanisms to deliver against your own objectives including ongoing problem solving.
  • Accountable for product costs. Cost analysis.
  • Accountable for maintenance of all test results and acting upon them.
  • Accountable for production of design documentation and maintenance of project files.
  • Accountable for correct finished product BOM using Engineering systems to capture as appropriate.
  • Keep the development of unique parts to a minimum and focus on the standardisation/ rationalisation of parts where possible.
  • Accountable for initiative-taking and continuous improvement of the product/cost ratio and utilisation of new processes and technologies to enhance the quality, safety, and cost effectiveness of the finished product.
  • Seek development opportunities and experiment with new approaches and practices to stay current in the NPD environment. Develop Engineering tools, standards, processes and supporting information, to improve the efficiency and productivity of the department/ business.
  • Guarantee the delivery of the business strategy, by ensuring you manage delivery of your own objectives and prepare for your regular performance management meetings. Ensure planning/preparation for monthly one to ones.
  • Strive to improve the overall financial and key performance indicators of the business.
  • Accountable for demonstrating company behaviours and values.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

Essential:

  • Degree or HNC in Mechanical and / or Electrical Engineering or similar qualifications
  • Demonstrable expert 3D CAD skills (Unigraphics NX).
  • Fully conversant with product design in the engineering field and a complete understanding of engineering drawings, along with GD&T.
  • Driven to apply DFx experience (Cost, Manufacture, Assembly, Test) to all product developments.
  • Proven excellent problem-solving skills. Showing initiative and creativity at all levels of the design process.
  • Evidence of technical expertise in MV and LV Distribution.
  • Fully conversant with material specifications and a high degree of understanding of materials and their applications.
  • Experience of product BoM cost management.
  • Capable of retrieving and analysing data.
  • Good research skills for continuous improvement projects.
  • PC literate – use of MS Office packages (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Knowledge and full understanding of relevant IEC standards.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of development / engineering processes and procedures.
  • Experience of PDM/PLM tools (Teamcenter), BoM control and engineering change process.
  • Understand the supply chain.
  • Good knowledge of quality systems.
  • Demonstrate commercial awareness (can see the bigger picture).

Desirable:

  • Degree equivalent in Mechanical and / or Electrical engineering or similar.
  • Knowledge / comprehensive understanding of medium voltage switchgear.
  • Comprehensive Experience in Switchgear design.
  • Sheet metal part design experience (including pressed parts).
  • Injection Moulded part design experience.
  • Cast Resin design experience.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills (e.g., FMEA)
  • Project planning and execution including reporting and risk management.
  • Jig/fixture design experience.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS (DESIRABLE):

  • Full driving license

Responsibilities:

Lead Engineering design projects for new product or special product development, in collaboration with the laboratory and industrialisation teams. Bring professional expertise and knowledge as a subject matter in all aspects of medium and low voltage switchgear, specialising in mechanical and electrical engineering development within the R&D department. Highly knowledgeable on MV switchgear development. In-depth knowledge of MV and LV distribution.
