We are now looking for a Senior Develoment Engineer or a Development Engineer to join UPM Biochemicals Biomass Conversion team in Lappeenranta, Finland.

What you will do

  • You will be responsible for the timely and efficient research and development to optimize biomass conversion processes with internal and external partners
  • You will be a key member of our Lappeenranta based technology development team and work closely with your direct colleagues, supervisor, and other scientists, engineers, and business representatives to continue refining our unique wood based refining process
  • You will be a member of the overall UPM Biochemicals team that is working to achieve profitable growth in the chemical market while ensuring UPM’s sustainable transformation
  • You will evaluate various solid liquid separation techniques and equipment for applications in biomass conversion processes
  • You will be responsible for designing, planning, and executing pilot-scale trials, paving the way for their transition to large-scale production
  • You will develop a full-scale design for solid-liquid separation concepts optimizing Capex, Opex and process runnability
  • You will take responsibility in pilot concept of the downstream processing of enzymatic hydrolysis lignin

Who you are

  • You have an advanced university degree in a technical field such as Biorefining, Process or Chemical Engineering
  • As a Senior Development Engineer you have at least 5 years / as a Development Engineer you have 1-3 years of relevant work experience related to separation technology in bioprocessing or pulp/papermaking technology
  • Ideally experienced with developing process strategies from concept to qualification
  • You have experience in biobased materials, wood chemistry and process equipment
  • You have experience in managing technical projects, especially with new technologies or chemicals and are passionate about these fields
  • You exhibit a can-do attitude and are interested in growing your experience with business growth
  • Knowledge in lignin chemistry, enzymatic lignin production and/or lignin applications is an asset
  • You have positive and innovative attitude
  • You have have a readiness to travel
  • You are fluent in English, have excellent communication and presentation skills. Other languages are an asset
