An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Cubico Sustainable Investments based in Brisbane (Sydney & Melbourne will also be considered).
The Senior Development Manager will manage a portfolio of renewable energy development projects, while working closely with the broader Cubico business both within Australia and the Group Functions.
Principal responsibilities include to identify, project manage and progress a portfolio of renewable development projects, including managing third party co-development partners as required. You will play a key role in delivering the development business plan for the Australia, meeting growth targets and project milestones as Cubico’s Australia portfolio increases.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE
The successful candidate will need to possess a proven track record of delivering renewable energy projects successfully:
KNOWLEDGE
- Bachelor’s degree and Master’s or certification preferred.
- A good understanding of energy industry, with a particular focus on renewable energy, including resource assessments, site assessments and renewable energy and storage technology and their drivers.
- In depth experience of the renewable energy project development process from inception to operation of a project, including: site selection; understanding of the site constraints; community and landowner engagement; permitting; and network connection activities.
EXPERIENCE
- Substantial experience in development of energy projects, with a deep knowledge of the wind development process in Australia (primarily Qld, NSW and Vic)
- Proven track record of delivering projects successfully.
- Strong network of industry contacts from which to generate investment or development opportunities.
- Willingness to travel as required.

Responsibilities:
- Project managing projects in all development stages of the Australia development portfolio (from securing land to environmental studies to permitting to securing grid and offtake and reaching financial close)
- Building the portfolio by identifying new greenfield sites and opportunities to acquire project or partner with developers to access their pipeline
- Must be able to develop proposals and plans for renewable projects. This includes designing and outlining the project scope, budget
- Following Cubico’s processes and continuously improving local working practices across the whole development lifecycle
- Managing and delivering development programmes to ensure that budgets are met, timeframes are kept to and quality is optimised
- Managing procurement and contract management processes including contract negotiations e.g. for promises to lease and technical/environmental contracts
- Producing regular development portfolio reports
- Maintaining and proactively managing portfolio risk registers
- Working with internal and external engineering and technical teams to ensure the optimal solution (in terms of LCOE) is incorporated into all projects e.g. site layouts, technology choice, design requirements etc
- Ensuring financial models are kept current and reviewing all assumptions to ensure the project economics are robust
- Developing, managing and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders (including co-developers and development partners)
- Actively monitoring the market for new opportunities e.g. in other technologies
