Senior Director, Construction Project Management EMEA
ROIE SUMMARY
The Senior Director leads and controls the day-to-day operations and strategic direction of large, cross-regional or global construction programs as well as mentoring and coaching team members of varying levels of experience. The Senior Director contributes significantly to creating and maintaining best-in-class construction policies and procedures, establishes and maintains supply chain relationships, as well as fostering a client-centric focus on project delivery.
The Senior Director’s key focus is to produce predictable outcomes of the construction investments in the region, improving the percentage of On-time Delivery (%OTD) of projects through:
- Planning and directing the day-to-day operations and long-term strategic direction of Construction projects in the Southern EMEA Hub consisting of France, Spain, Italy and Portugal. The first two are amongst Equinix’s largest markets both regionally and globally both of which are growing strongly and likely to experience major expansion over and above committed CapEx
- Providing leadership and direction in construction policies, vendor, subcontractor and supplier relationships, driving accountability, training and employee development, project and group profitability, and all other areas covered within and by this group in order to achieve overall Company objectives
QUALIFICATIONS
- High intellectual capacity ideally with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in engineering, construction management or a related field
- Substantial, progressive experience in successfully managing large-scale, high-tech and data centre construction projects or programs with capital expenditure oversight of $250mn across various geographies with Europe and ideally other EMEA locations, North America, and Asia Pacific
- Strong working knowledge and experience of the design of data centres and/or other high- tech facilities
- Detailed working knowledge of building construction and project management processes and procedures at a global scale
- Evidenced ability to analyse and evaluate construction documents including drawings, specifications and contracts
- Deep competency in CPM scheduling methods, construction cost estimating, proposal generation and development, document management and contract administration
- Proven experience of building and leading high-performing teams (15+) with directors and managers across multiple international regions
- Demonstrated success in building and leading teams of construction professionals at varying levels of professional development with well developed competencies in talent identification and development, coaching and mentoring
- Exceptional communication, written and verbal presentation skills, negotiation and analytical skills required proven in multiple international regions
- Ability to multi-task and work within team projects in an extremely fast-paced and demanding environment locally and internationally

Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage all construction projects throughout the hub providing guidance and project leadership across greenfield and brownfield construction, remodels, renovations, etc. ensuring projects are meeting or exceeding company expectations
- Direct an internal team of 5-7 per project (via a matrix structure) comprising internal construction managers, internal design team disciplines as well as Procurement, Operations, and IT/Network support teams
- Direct multiple (15+) external vendors per project comprising General Contractors, Architectural & Engineering (A&E) design teams, commissioning agents, equipment suppliers, etc.
- Drive the continuous improvement and implementation of company and departmental processes and best management practices within areas of responsibility
- Ensure effective contract administration including generation, review, management, and monitoring of prime contracts, subcontracts, change orders, cost forecasts, and other pertinent documents and documentation. Assure that internal controls are in place at each step of the process
- Assure Inspection of work in place and work in progress to warrant these meet or exceed quality, specification, and schedule requirements
- Maintain strong working relationships with internal and external team members including colleagues, subcontractors, vendors, architects, and other industry professionals
- Monitor, analyse and manage controllable expenditures
- Hire, grow and develop a high-performing, diverse team ensuring efficient and effective departmental performance and the provision of training, professional development, and career advancement opportunities.
- Provide Company subject-matter expertise in areas of responsibility
- Reports status, successes, challenges and plans-of-action to management team and company on a timely basis
- Develop, manage and be accountable for achievement of key departmental metrics
