A high-visibility leadership role for a strategic manager of people, resources and client expectations.
Known for your accomplishments as a senior project management professional related to the facilities management industry and your ability to engage with senior executives and build credibility with clients, especially when dealing with mission-critical projects, you bring a breadth of skills, experience and emotional intelligence that inspires excellence and drives quality results. You are an exceptional communicator, able to manage relationships and performance, someone clients know they can count on to put in place the people, resources and processes required not only to deliver on project specifications but to meet their highest expectations.
Reporting to the National Lead, Major Projects, the Senior Director, Major Projects is accountable for strategic program management and leading the full-service project delivery of a major capital project for the federal government. At this level, projects are of a high complexity, risk and exposure. Typically these major capital projects are in excess of $50 million and may run over a 5-10 year plan. In addition, the role is accountable for leading a team of Project Directors.
The diversity of projects carried out by the Design and Project Delivery Services group makes this position an exciting opportunity to be involved in different construction models, manage a variety of stakeholder interests, and continue to grow and deepen your knowledge base. You will be part of a Project Management team delivering services that span across all project phases, from workplace planning to pre-construction and design development, to management of construction. With 4,500+ projects managed per year, 160+ team members and $450M+ delivered annually, our group delivers projects across Canada, from small infrastructure upgrades to tenant fit-ups through to major consolidations and new builds, to energy retrofits and critical environments.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

University degree in Architecture or Engineering, University graduation or professional certification (e.g. P. Eng, CMA, CGA or equivalent courses)
At least 15 years of project and program management work experience
At least 15 years of managing a team.
At least 15 years of strategic planning and project management in both private and public sectors
Hands on experience in project initiation, economics, transaction negotiating, team building, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and move management

Experience with fit-up of office space combined with infrastructure upgrades

  • Proven track record of managing Projects >$150M
  • Business management ability and exceptional business acumen, able to develop strategic program management.
  • Business financial management ability and exceptional financial acumen with proven previous experience.
  • Significant experience in meeting financial and business profitability objectives
  • Exceptionally skilled at influencing, persuading and negotiating with client representatives at the senior management to executive position level
  • Exceptionally skilled at building and managing relationships with client representatives at the senior management to executive level, able to manage client expectations.
  • Able to develop people leadership abilities along with proven previous experience in leading, engaging, motivating, managing, developing, attracting and retaining individuals
  • Possesses a continuous improvement and quality mindset along with a desire to continuously seek and incorporate innovative practices and technologies in order to deliver value to the clientComputer proficiency in MS Office applications in particular – MS Project, MS Excel, MS Outlook, along with ability to quickly learn new applications

Responsibilities:

For the assigned major projects:

Project Management

  • Accountable for program management for major projects with high complexity and risk in excess of $50 million

Develops program and project management with related experience in delivering programs and projects on-time, on-budget, within specifications and in-compliant with all requirements including but not limited to regulatory, environmental, health, and safety requirements
Directs program execution. Accountable for ensuring programs are delivered on-time, on-budget, within scope and in compliant with all regulatory, environmental, health and safety requirements
Accountable for meeting performance metrics for assigned programs
Provides strong leadership, guidance, coaching and support to the project management team in the continuous review, identification, development and implementation of processes and technological improvements to optimize program delivery
Accountable for meeting profitability targets through effective planning, leadership, operational, financial and risk management, and implementation of process and technological improvements for assigned programs
Collaborates with relevant stakeholders on business pursuits
Develops and maintains effective relationships with stakeholders

Client Relationship Management

  • Develops and maintains effective relationships with clients
  • Accountable for resolving escalated issues from project management team members, managing client expectations, and ensuring client satisfaction
  • Ensures that client expectations are met or exceeded on all projects and that the clients’ best interests are represented

People Leadership

  • Accountable for employee engagement, development and performance management, hiring and retention, compensation recommendationsOther duties as assigned.
