Job Description:
The Senior Director of Enrollment Research and Analytics leads, develops, and implements a strategic enrollment research and analytics plan to inform the setting and achievement of goals, priorities, and strategies for student enrollment, engagement, and success across the entire student lifecycle. This hands-on position will lead the department, creating an environment of enrollment data democratization at Berklee, where the leadership and staff at all levels will have access to the right information at the right time to inform everything from their daily tasks to the development of strategic and operational plans.
Reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment Management, and working in close collaboration with senior members in enrollment management, student success, academic affairs, finance, institutional research, and information technology services, the Senior Director increases access to data, develops enrollment modeling, produces informative reports, and provides analytical insights that drive strategic enrollment management across all campus-based programs including Berklee College of Music, Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Berklee NYC, and Berklee Valencia. The Senior Director also defines and executes on specific admissions, retention, student aid, and student success research projects preparing research plans, strategic analyses, and reports that drive strategy.
The Senior Director is an expert on admissions, retention, and student data within the institution and works to enhance the quality and utility of the data as well as the reporting capabilities from various systems. To ensure that data can meet standard and ad hoc reporting and analytical needs, the Senior Director develops and standardizes reporting procedures, streamlines reporting activities and processes, and establishes efficient methods of prioritizing and monitoring data needs. The Senior Director works collaboratively across the institution to improve data integrity and access by serving as the chair of a cross-functional analytics committee and on other technology project implementation teams charged with driving enrollment data, systems and technology plans.
The Senior Director is responsible for producing and managing the work, such as presentations and reports that are scheduled and requested ad hoc, that are shared with various constituencies, including members of the senior leadership, president’s office, and board of trustees. To this end, work must be summarized and presented in ways that are accessible to non-technical audiences, and must be timely, concise, and accurate. Strong research, technical and interpersonal skills are essential, as well as the ability to think critically and analytically, work independently, and handle multiple tasks. The ability to distill and convey findings clearly is a critical component of the work.
Advanced working knowledge of Tableau, Excel, Salesforce, Colleague, query language, and digital analytics preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the day-to-day management of enrollment analytics staff; provide guidance, support and feedback, including annual performance evaluations.
- Create dashboards and reports that are produced in a timely and accurate manner for admissions, student aid, enrollment, and other strategic reporting. Create enrollment models and conduct analytic research to inform annual enrollment goals for admissions, financial aid, retention, and student success
- Serve on the Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) Group that drives enrollment planning, tracking, and reporting across all campus-based programs.
- Work with VP of Enrollment, AVP of Enrollment Strategy and Operations, Dean of Admissions, and AVP of Student Financial Services to develop, track, and report on admissions and financial aid strategies across all programs.
- Collaborate closely with Berklee’s external partners (EAB) throughout the enrollment cycle.
- Provide Net Tuition Revenue (NTR) modeling and/or financial reporting
- Provide support to key student success outcomes, and KPIs connected to Berklee’s premier student success program, the Berklee Bridge.
- Provide support with enrollment projections related to entering, continuing, and returning students, as well as key student affairs and student success areas, such as Housing and Advising.
- Provide support to VP, SVP, and President, including preparation of data and analysis for presentations to advisory boards, leadership teams, and board of trustees.
- Provide enrollment reports to executive leadership for Berklee College of Music, Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Berklee NYC, and Berklee Valencia.
- Work with the Registrar’s Office and Institutional Research to maintain data access, improve analytics capabilities, and produce annual enrollment reports.
- Collaborate with Institutional Research and Finance to record data and compile reports in accordance with compliance standards for internal and external reporting.
- Collaborate with data managers to define operational data definitions, ensure efficient passing of validated data between systems, and establish data quality control protocols to ensure the validation of data accuracy.
- Develop self-service dashboards and standard reports on recruitment, student aid, and student success that support day to day operations and strategic planning.
- Attend weekly enrollment leadership meetings to develop enrollment strategy and inform the strategic direction of the enrollment management division.
Required Skills:
- Ability to conduct rigorous, applied data analysis that informs the strategic goals of the institution.
- Ability to manage a staff of analysts, providing them with guidance, support, and feedback.
- Ability to synthesize and convey findings to non-technical audiences.
- Ability to create compelling data visualizations, and craft narrative summaries of research findings.
- Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and activities yet maintain exquisite attention to detail.
- Advanced working knowledge of Tableau, Excel, Salesforce.
- Ability to join data from various databases and systems into workable data sets.
- Proficiency with statistical analysis software and database query tools; ability to use query language to select, extract, and manipulate data.
Required Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in higher education, including experience in a leadership position.
- Knowledge of strategic enrollment management principles, including financial aid leveraging and strategy.
- Experience in strategic enrollment research, management, analytics, and reporting
- Experience with academic admissions and record data management, reporting and analysis.
