Oxford Economics, a leading global economic research and consultancy firm, is looking to hire a Senior Economist in our Economic Impact Consulting team.
Our Economic Impact Consulting team tackles a wide range of questions raised by our clients, from quantifying the economic, environmental and social impact of major companies, industries and governments, evaluating the impact of major investments, to estimating the value created by cultural institutions. Consulting projects usually run for between two and six months, and culminate in a report or presentation to a client.
In this role, the successful candidate will typically work on two or three research projects at a time, and are expected to contribute in various ways, from statistical modelling and data analysis, drafting reports to a high standard and explaining results. The role will ideally progress onto managing consultancy projects, designing analytical frameworks and leading interactions with clients. Some specific types of analysis include developing models based on input-output tables or econometric analysis, quantifying the economic impacts of major investment projects, analysing country and company global supply chains.
This is an excellent opportunity to work with our diverse range of clients across Europe and the Middle East. As well as strong quantitative analytical skills, our economists excel in written and verbal communication, allowing them to explain complex concepts in a clear and accessible way. Senior Economists will work closely with senior colleagues in ideas generation and the production of new research proposals for clients.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • At least 4 years of professional economist work experience;
  • Experience of quantitative economic analysis and dealing with a variety of data;
  • Evidence of successful quantitative project work and report-writing;
  • Strong skills in Excel and the manipulation of large datasets;
  • Strong quantitative & analytical skills, excelling in both written and verbal communication;
  • Evidence of being creative in using economics to answer practical questions;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain economic concepts and quantitative results, as well as their implications, to non-specialists; and,
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to going the extra mile to produce rigorous, accurate work, within the constraints of the time and resources available.

Desired:

  • A post-graduate degree in economics or a closely related quantitative discipline;
  • Practical experience from a consultancy background
  • Familiarity with analytical techniques such as IO modelling, cost-benefit analysis, or econometrics.
  • Good knowledge of National Accounts statistics and concepts;
  • Experience in conducting economic analysis using large company-level datasets, for example using company procurement databases, survey microdata, and/or Bloomberg;
  • Experience of client-facing work and a track record of successful quantitative project analysis; and
  • Experience in conducting quantitative analysis using programming languages such as R, Python, or SQL.

  • Taking the initiative in suggesting ways to strengthen the quality of our analysis; with progression to proactively developing new business opportunities.
