JOB DESCRIPTION

The University of Missouri College of Engineering is seeking an experienced and innovative Senior Editor to join our Marketing and Communications team. In this role, the Senior Editor will be responsible for creating, editing and proofreading content across various platforms, including digital (web, social media) and print publications. This position uniquely blends the skills of a marketing copywriter with those of a research reporter, requiring the ability to simplify complex research into clear, accessible narratives that strategically promote the college.
The Senior Editor will craft engaging stories that resonate with diverse audiences, including prospective students, alumni and industry partners. This storytelling will help highlight the college’s impact and inspire key stakeholders.
Reporting directly to the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Senior Editor will provide strategic input and editorial guidance to colleagues, though this role does not include direct supervisory responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Write, proofread and edit a variety of content for both digital and print platforms.
  • Conduct interviews, take notes and research topics to support content creation.
  • Proactively generate story ideas and identify opportunities for impactful communications.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff and students to produce high-quality content that advances the College of Engineering’s strategic goals.
  • Aid with executive communication (Dean, Department Chairs, etc.) to internal and external audiences.
  • This role will occasionally support the development of application materials for awards and recognitions, helping to highlight the achievements of faculty, students and the college.
  • Assist and support team members in content development and editorial tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience, and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience (5 years preferred).
  • Experience in higher education or the engineering field is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional writing, proofreading and editing skills, with the proven ability to communicate complex information to a general audience.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
