If you are looking for a role where you can experience the full spectrum of administrating and delivering elections, then Wiltshire Council has a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Electoral Services Officer to join our friendly and committed team who provide high quality, professional electoral services.
Our Elections Team is made up of 10 staff where there are a variety of projects which help to embed knowledge and legislative changes as well as the opportunity to review and improve processes. A typical year in Elections is made up of 20 by-elections/NPRs, over 200 councillor vacancies, a scheduled poll and the annual canvass. Wiltshire covers an electoral area made up of 5 Parliamentary constituencies, 98 single member unitary divisions, 256 parish, town and city councils, 220,000 properties and 390,000 electorates.
As a Senior Electoral Services Officer, you will be responsible for supporting the delivery of elections across Wiltshire, where there will be a requirement to travel to any part of the county, including working at any of the 3 main council offices in Trowbridge, Chippenham and Salisbury.
Further responsibilities include supporting the team to maintain the register’s accuracy and lead on specific projects throughout the year such as the annual canvass, boundary reviews, etc and taking ownership of by-elections/NPRs from the Notice of Vacancy to DRO at a count. You will also provide professional advice to the Returning Officer, Electoral Registration Officer and elected members, working collaboratively to promote participation in the democratic process.
We are looking for a candidate with a degree-level education or significant experience in electoral legislative procedures. You should hold, or be willing to obtain, the Association of Electoral Administrators (AEA) Certificate in Electoral Administration. To excel in this role, you should bring with you strong leadership and project management skills, along with specialist knowledge of electoral services.
