You will be instrumental in overseeing all protection controls, relays, information management systems, and the overall operations of the system, including transformers. This role involves monitoring all settings, conducting preventative maintenance, and collaborating daily with the reliability and operations teams. Additionally, you will participate in new projects and innovative initiatives.
Minimum Requirements:
- 5 or more years of experience as a Journeyperson Electrician, Power Systems Electrician or Electrical Engineer, with a specialization in protection and controls systems
- A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a valid Alberta or Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyperson electrician certificate or Engineering Technologist Certificate
- Ability to build key relationships with cross-functional, internal, and external stakeholders
- A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development of detailed preventative maintenance program to ensure the sustainable integrity of the protection, metering, and communication systems.
- Provide technical resources to operations & maintenance (O&M) and out of scope areas.
- Provide real time training for the O&M technical staff for forced outage protection interpretation.
- Develop Omicron test routines for equipment and relay testing.
- Maintain records of system equipment including test templates.
- Support the System Protection Engineer in analysis of equipment life cycle and replacement products.
- Assist Protection Engineer in the analysis of protection settings.
- Assist Area Operations Supervisor in the forced outage incident analysis of protection operation.
- Analyze test reports and recommend corrective action.
- Develop work scopes, draft procedures, and perform routine repairs.
- Comply with the Transmission & Distribution system operating, and maintenance safe work practices, procedures and standards.
Location and other Key Details:
- You will work out of our Firebag location, which is our largest in situ operation and one of the largest in the world (and located 120 km northeast of Fort McMurray, Alberta)
- The shift schedule is 8 days on / 6 days off rotation (12-hour shifts)
- This position is safety sensitive
- This position is security sensitive which requires you to clear a criminal history check
