JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
We are seeking an experienced senior Electrical and Electronics Engineer to work in our aerospace Advanced Technology Organisation (ATO). You will play a leading role in defining the next generation of products for the business. You will be expected to take responsibility for the hardware aspects of prototyping, guiding the project teams through the concept development and prototype design phases, and supporting transition into production. The role will require you to understand the aerospace market and work with the technology, business, and strategy leaders to identify market opportunities and define and validate new product concepts. It will also require you to build a detailed technical understanding of design of electrical products for aviation use. This role will really suit someone who is a free-thinking practical problem solver who gains satisfaction from developing high-quality, cost-effective new products. A minimum of five years’ post-graduate experience is required.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The ATO at Bishops Cleeve leads the development of a broad range of Power and Avionics products and technologies. GE Aerospace are active in aircraft electrification research and are developing high-voltage, high-power systems that put lab safety at the forefront. The successful candidate will be assigned to projects based on skills match and can expect involvement with multiple product and technology areas over their career.
This is a multi-faceted role with a high degree of autonomy but the core competencies that we are looking for are around design, analysis and verification of requirements for power electronics hardware in an R&D setting. The role includes regular collaboration with systems engineering, embedded software development, mechanical design, and testing functions.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum - degree or equivalent in relevant engineering or science subject.
- Desirable - PhD in relevant subject.
- Minimum five years’ experience working as an Electrical/Electronic Engineer in the aerospace, automotive or industrial sectors or academia.
- Good understanding of electrical power systems or vehicle systems.
- Thorough knowledge of industry-standard tools equivalent to DOORS, SIMetrix simulation, PLECS simulation and Mentor Graphic schematic capture and PCB layout
- Experience of safe working in Lab Environments (ideally High Voltage)
- Familiarity with lab test equipment and measurement techniques (DMM, Scopes, PSUs, Load Banks).
- Demonstrated leadership of complex projects and/or leading technical teams.
Responsibilities:
- Lead development of product hardware concepts and requirements with consideration to the system requirements, market, business case and the product life cycle.
- Lead design of prototype product hardware architecture in conjunction with the systems, software, mechanical and tools teams.
- Have, or be prepared to develop, a deep understanding of aircraft electrical power and avionics systems including electric and hybrid vehicles.
- Provide insight into technology state-of-the-art.
- Work with our customers to develop concepts for their new aircraft, including contributing to technical proposals.
- Work across the business to facilitate successful research activities.
- Work with the ATO solutions architect to ensure consistent approach across projects.
- Define and co-ordinate functional, EMC and environmental testing on prototype equipment to relevant requirements and identify shortfalls or faults.
- Lead by example in adhering to safety best practice.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers to increase the overall capability of the ATO team.
- The job will have a level of local and international travel.
