Description:

Located on the western side of Howe Sound, Howe Sound Pulp and Paper is one of the longest running mills in the province. Commissioned in 1909, Howe Sound Pulp and Paper plays a key role in the history of the Sunshine Coast. Generations of families who were first attracted to the area by mill jobs, stayed and have made the Coast their home. The Paper Excellence Howe Sound Pulp and Paper facility is a leading producer of high quality Northern Bleached Softwood Kraft pulps. These pulps are used by customers worldwide to make a wide variety of products from tissue and paper towels to fine writing paper.

OVERVIEW:

Howe Sound is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Maintenance & Engineering teams at our facility at Port Mellon, BC. Reporting to the E/I Superintendent, the Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for the reliability and integrity of the mill-wide power systems. As an integral group leader, this position will be thoroughly familiar with the overall mill operations, the electrical safety programs, capital and major maintenance programs in order to maintain both plant facilities and any new equipment additions.

Qualifications:

  • Electrical Engineering University Degree registered Professional Engineer in BC, or fully eligible for registration, and 10+ years of experience.
  • Knowledge of Pulp Technology, operations and production methods within ability to provide technical leadership for the electrical components of multi-disciplinary industrial or power generation projects.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Project, AutoCAD and 3D design/drafting techniques.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong leadership, negotiation, and communications skills in both dynamic team environments and with vendors.
  • PMP designation considered an asset

Responsibilities:

  • Provide project engineering and electrical discipline leadership.
  • Process and technology accountabilities for existing electrical infrastructure includes:
  • Power grid inter-connections with BC Hydro,
  • Main substation & area transformers, power distribution centers, and motor control centers as well as turbo generators.
  • Perform engineering design and related duties as required; including, power system studies, equipment specifications and selection, management of vendor / equipment suppliers, power distribution layouts, grounding, LV and MV motor sizing and selection, cable distribution design, schematic, single line, termination schedule and wiring design.
  • Ensure safety and compliance accountabilities to BC Hydro, Electrical Building Inspector, CSA and Worksafe BC relevant Codes, Standards, Regulations and Procedures.
  • Actively support the development of safe work plans, JHA, reporting, corrective actions, etc.
  • Maintain support for the existing electrical infrastructure as needed.
  • Must be flexible to work shifts, overtime, and weekends as required to support operations when necessary.
