As part of our newly created global Employee Relations & HR Compliance Center of Excellence, you will be responsible for leading this critical function for Canada. In this role, you will collaborate closely with Employment Legal, HR and business departments to ensure the effective operation of employee/labor relations and HR compliance within the company, while providing valuable support and guidance to maintain a healthy, legal, and harmonious work environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent practical experience; JD/law degree preferred.
  • Experience working in employee/labor relations in Canada specifically in BC, Ontario and Quebec; French fluency preferred; some ER experience in US is a plus.
  • Experience handling reasonable accommodations.
  • Ability to build trust, along with demonstrated ability to drive and lead results.
  • Stellar communication skills, conflict management and resolution skills with experience in delivering sensitive messaging of all types to a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Results driven ability with problem analysis and resolution skills.
  • Broad knowledge of Canadian employment laws and regulations and the ability to appropriately spot employment risks and issues.
  • Possess sound judgment, while balancing acting with a sense of urgency, ability to handle multiple tasks and be detail oriented.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities as well as planning, organization, and time management skills.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships across all levels of the organization, including remote areas.
  • Maintains composure in a fast-paced, fluid environment and successfully navigates ambiguity to build consensus and achieve resolutions with geographically diverse stakeholders.
    Compensation Range: $87,000 - $145,000 CAD

Responsibilities:

Business Partnership:

  • Collaborate closely with business leaders and HR business partners to understand their specific needs and align HR practices with business objectives.
  • Provide guidance and support to business leaders on employee/labor relations matters, including performance management, disciplinary actions, grievances, reasonable accommodations and conflict resolution.
  • Coach and influence HR Business Partners on interventions required for individuals, managers, and/or teams on preventing employee relations/labor risks, effective management of performance cases, giving performance feedback, and increasing employee engagement.
  • Guide global HR Business Partners (HRBPs) in handling simple employee relations cases based on the employee relations hierarchy and investigation mechanisms.

Employee/Labor Relations:

  • Oversee and guide employee/labor relations activities in Canada ensuring fair and consistent treatment of employees and compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Effectively manage ER/Labor cases including investigations, disciplinary issues, reasonable accommodations, interpersonal employee conflicts, underperformance, involuntary exits (including reduction in force) and other employee-related matters to successful resolution.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor in the employee experience by building and facilitating ER/Labor and compliance processes that emphasize fair, consistent, and respectful outcomes.
  • Lead and own the end-to-end resolution of complex employee/labor relations issues.
  • Conduct reviews and investigations on sensitive workplace issues and employee/labor relations matters.
  • For severe and non-compliant employee/labor relations cases, involve Employment Legal in workplace investigations, fostering close collaboration to ensure compliance and mitigate legal risks.

HR Compliance:

  • Stay current with Canadian provincial employment laws and regulations.
  • Manage and ensure compliance with all employment law regulations, social relations and practices for provinces in Canada where NetEase operates.
  • Proactively identify, manage and monitor risks and propose improvements and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Interpret, communicate and maintain ER/Labor policies and processes.
  • Responsible for creating regional ER/Labor policies to include updating Canada employee handbooks.
  • Recommend policy changes and enhancements based on investigation findings and emerging trends.
  • Conduct periodic compliance audits to identify and address potential compliance gaps and recommend appropriate actions to mitigate risks.
  • Collaborate with Employment Legal and HR teams to design and implement ER/Labor and HR compliance training programs tailored for HRBPs, employees and people managers.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain precise records of employee/labor relations and compliance matters in ER case management system while ensuring the accuracy and confidentiality of information.
  • Ensure proper documentation of investigations, grievances, resolutions, reasonable accommodations, and compliance efforts.
