Description:

Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL) is hiring a Senior Employee & Labour Relations Specialist on a permanent basis on our People & Culture team. While this position is a remote opportunity, preference will be given to candidates local to Saskatchewan.
As a member of the Employee and Labour Relations team, you will provide leadership and human resource strategies to team leaders to support them in creating a high performing and inclusive culture.

WHO YOU ARE:

You are looking for a career in Human Resources & Training and:

  • Have a Bachelor of Commerce, Business Administration or Law. Preference given to Human Resources.
  • Have a minimum of 6-9 years of relevant progressively responsible HR advisor experience in a unionized work environment, with a primary focus on labour relations (a combination of relevant education and experience may be considered).
  • Are familiar with employee relations, collective bargaining, and/or the grievance and arbitration process.
  • You’re honest and trustworthy, are results oriented and strive to be the best in what you do.
  • You believe in collaboration, building relationships and value the perspectives of others.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide employee and labour relations services to clients across the Co-operative Retailing System (CRS).
  • Provide leadership, expertise, advice, and human resource strategies to help team leaders excel in areas such as: employee engagement, creating a high performance and inclusive culture, managing change, employee and labour relations, and performance management.
  • Oversee case management (e.g. reinterpretation of CBA language or change in past practice) which will include researching past case law during the grievance process, developing responses to employee-initiated claims, working with legal counsel to prepare documentation for negotiating, finalizing settlements, and coaching team leaders to develop action plans.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with union representatives in order to facilitate business operations.
  • Coach team leaders on issues or questions such as return to work plans, employee absenteeism and develop Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) as required.
  • Support the Labour Relations Community of Expertise by preparing research material to be utilized during collective bargaining agreement negotiations along with developing scalable business continuity plans.
  • Lead intakes and conduct prompt, thorough, and impartial investigations in response to complaints filed by FCL employees.

    You will work closely with the Employee & Labour Relations team, and will report into the Manager, Employee & Labour Relations. This team strives to cultivate a culture of collaboration, community, and support.
