Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Law degree from reputable University (or UK law school) with excellent academics;
  • England and Wales qualified solicitor (or equivalent European jurisdiction qualification).
  • Must have the right to work in the UK.
  • At least 6 years’ PQE, including 2 years’ experience at a top law firm;
  • In depth knowledge of UK employment laws.
  • Experience with European employment laws in at least one of France or Germany including working with works councils.
  • Experience with employment laws in other international jurisdictions, is not required but is desirable;
  • Ability to provide pragmatic and risk-based advice to the business;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Excellent analytical and negotiating skills;
  • Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, with ability to be flexible and adapt to frequently changing workload and responsibilities;
  • Acute attention to detail with ability to multi-task;
  • Must have initiative, be able to act decisively, work independently and exercise good judgement;
  • Fluent or advanced level in the following languages is not a requirement but is highly desirable: French or German.

Responsibilities:

ROLE DESCRIPTION

This is a unique opportunity for a senior employment lawyer to be a key contributor to the growth of the international business across Europe, and beyond. CoStar is seeking a senior-level attorney to serve in the role of Senior Counsel, Employment – International, for domestic and international (non-US) employment matters. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 6-7 years post-qualification, relevant employment law experience. The position will be a leader on international employment law matters, and report directly to the Associate General Counsel – Head of Legal, EMEA (based in London) and indirectly to the Associate General Counsel – Head of Employment Law (based in Washington DC). The position is based in CoStar’s international head office, currently the Shard, London (attendance requirement 4 days a week) The successful candidate will work primarily with teams based in the UK, France, Germany and Spain but also globally where required. Experience with data privacy, intellectual property rights enforcement, and other areas of compliance is helpful.
The successful candidate will possess a creative approach to solving global business and legal problems, thrive in a fast-paced environment, have excellent credentials, show meticulous attention to detail and accuracy, and demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be the lead legal point of contact and trusted business partner to the international Human Resources department and other key business stakeholders.
  • Provide strategic legal advice regarding all aspects of the employment life cycle.
  • Advise on legislative changes and suitable implementation of new processes across the business in order to comply with such changes.
  • Draft and revise employment law-related documentation, such as contracts and other employment-related agreements.
  • Assist with drafting and development of employment policies.
  • Develop strategy for responding to legal claims and threats of litigation including assisting with fact development in pre-litigation and/or litigation matters.
  • Manage employment law aspects of employee data subject requests.· Respond to audits and other legal information requests.
  • Litigate on the company’s behalf, including negotiation of settlement amounts with counterparty’s counsel, and/or coordinate litigation and other legal matters handled by outside counsel.
  • Assist with due diligence in mergers and acquisitions and advising on employment issues arising from mergers, acquisitions and intra-group reorganisations, including post-acquisition integrations
  • Develop and deliver training on employment law compliance matters.
  • Manage multiple priorities and ensure that deadlines are met.
  • Manage and collaborate with external counsel in multiple jurisdictions where required, including negotiation of fees and monitoring of spend against budgets.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider legal team.
