Responsibilities:
THE ROLE
We are seeking a highly skilled and technically proficient Senior Development Engine Build Technician to join our engineering team. This role requires extensive hands-on experience in the assembly, measurement, and teardown of multi-cylinder prototype and benchmark engines, often without the support of build manuals. The successful candidate will excel in precision measurement, root cause analysis, and technical documentation, working collaboratively to advance our engineering projects to the highest standards.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assemble and prepare multi-cylinder prototype and benchmark engines to exacting engineering standards
- Detailed measurement and recording of critical engine components and subassemblies. Measuring cylinder and combustion volumes, compression ratio
- Measuring and assessing cylinder bores, pistons, valves, and valve guides, bearings and journals for dimensional accuracy, fit and clearance
- Utilising inspection reports and hand tools such as Vernier calipers, micrometers, slip gauges, 2-point and 3-point bore gauges, and other precision instruments to record build and post-test data
- Perform meticulous post-test teardown and inspection of engines, documenting disassembly torque values and wear characteristics
- Support root cause analysis (RCA) for observed issues, including anomalies in clearances, signs of oil starvation, material hardness deviations, or surface roughness inconsistencies
- Prepare comprehensive teardown reports, identifying both normal and abnormal wear patterns and providing actionable recommendations to engineering teams
- Maintain engine logbooks, detailing the state of build, servicing history, deviations from engineering protocols with sign-off approvals, and any corrective actions taken.
- Support rapidly changing test schedules both locally and abroad, ensuring engines are prepared, tested, and analysed within tight timelines while maintaining engineering precision
- Generate detailed job cards and support technical reports, communicating findings to the broader engineering team with clarity and precision
