About the Role:
The Engineering Analytics team generate data-driven insights to drive better operational understanding and performance improvements across AGL’s generation fleet. As the Senior Engineer – Advanced Analytics, you will work autonomously to identify opportunities for impact, execute analytics to a high standard and drive business outcomes through the results of your analytical work.
Along with technical analytics, you will also build strong relationships with key operational stakeholders across our grid scale assets, including Coal fired, Gas fired, Windfarms, battery storage and Hydro assets. You will influence positive outcomes with these stakeholders through data driven insights and advanced communication and interpersonal skills.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Identify the best opportunities for the application of data analytics techniques to drive performance improvement
  • Apply advanced statistical methods, including predictive analysis and machine learning, to operational data sets to convert data into actionable insights
  • Drive conversion of insights into action by effectively communication and visualising results, ensuring that stakeholders clearly understand the outputs and relevant uses
  • Educate engineering teams on what can be achieved through analytics and act as a trusted adviser through consistent delivery of high quality and reliable analytics
  • Travel to operational sites to build relationships, identify opportunities and communicate key results to drive improvement

About You:
You will ideally be an Engineer with experience working in power generation or heavy industry with a strong analytical background. Your ability to influence outcomes with key stakeholders, communicate at all levels and your inquisitive nature will set you up for success.

What you’ll bring to the table:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering and formal or informal study in data analytics
  • Operational experience on site with power generation, mining, oil & gas or similar
  • Advanced communication, interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Curiosity and the ability to quickly acquire field specific knowledge to scope and solve operational problems
  • Advanced data analytics capability, including time series data
  • Experience using Python, OSI PI, SQL and Power BI for data analytics and visualisation
  • The ability to understand and succinctly describe the business implications of an insight or course of action
  • Proficiency in Azure DevOps, including the management of pipelines and resources within the Azure environment.
  • Proficiency in Azure Data Science, including training models, implementing pipelines, and managing, deploying, and monitoring scalable machine learning solutions using Azure Machine Learning and MLflow.
  • Proficiency in the use of software development and collaboration tools such as Git
