Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) has an exciting opportunity for a leader with a passion for technology and the automotive industry. In this senior role, which reports to the Manager of Connected Technologies (CT), the successful candidate will provide engineering leadership & ownership over all technical aspects of CT products and services. This includes next generation planning & development, as well as current in-market generations sustainment. Responsibilities include product ownership, advocating for unique Canadian market technical & feature requirements with affiliate partners, both for In-Vehicle-Infotainment (IVI) & Toyota/Lexus App development. Further responsibilities include oversight of all testing/validation and in-market quality activities, ensuring on-time market readiness and voice of customer achievement. This role also manages all contract discussions and negotiations, ensuring program execution and commitments are achieved to meet TCI’s needs and requirements, including legal and regulatory compliance.

What You’ll be Doing:

Engineering Leadership & Product Ownership:

  • Lead all technical aspects of In-Vehicle-Infotainment (IVI), OneApp, and Connected Services development and implementation for the Canadian customers and dealers
  • Ensure next generation and new feature planning & development achieves all Canadian market needs through strong advocation with TMNA/TCNA and key stakeholders in adopting TCI hardware/software specs & requirements
  • Leverage all appropriate functional areas of TCI and TMNA/TCNA, through strong communication and project management, driving awareness and accountability, and ultimately achievement of TCI readiness & Canadian market needs
  • TCI-CT Product Owner, deliver engineering management and oversight for all technical matters, ensuring CT business requirements are captured, communicated and achieved
  • Ensure development and delivery of high-quality, and compliant IVI and OneApp products/services that contribute to Sales and After Sales business growth by providing customers with positive connected vehicle experiences
  • Oversee all CT testing & validation requirements are captured and successfully completed on-time in preparation for launch, ensuring market readiness for deployment
  • Oversee all CT In-Market & Customer Experience issues are appropriately identified, prioritized, investigate, escalated and resolved, ensuring strong customer satisfaction & recurrence prevention
  • Ultimate CT SME (Subject Matter Expert) with deep technical knowledge and understanding of IVI and OneApp products, systems and environments
  • Provide coaching and guidance to engineering, technical, and co-op team members

Relationship Management:

  • Foster strong working relationships with key stakeholders internally and externally, including TMNA/TCNA, affiliate-partners, and 3rd party vendors (e.g., Sirius XM, cellular network carriers, outside counsel)
  • Advocate for TCI and achieve alignment with Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) and Toyota Connected North America (TCNA)
  • Collaborate with TMNA/TCNA, TCI IS Dept and other key stakeholders to delivery CT launches on-time, on-schedule, and on-budget, including achieving all performance, quality and compliance requirements
  • Collaborate with TMNA and TCNA toward strategic product development, and local market relevance and regulations
  • Manage key TCI business stakeholder relations, ensuring strong collaboration and open channels of communication with PQSS, PPD, SIP/Vehicle Strategy, External Affairs, Legal, VSCLOC, Logistics, Finance and others to ensure vehicle/product specs, quality and compliance are achieved

Contracts & Compliance Management:

  • Manage all legal and regulatory compliance activities and initiatives for CT
  • Collaborate with all key stakeholders, both internally and externally, including Legal, Regulatory Affairs, Government Affairs, outside counsel, TMNA/TCNA and vendors.
  • Build strong and productive relationships with TMNA CT Affiliates team and Contracts team, advocating and promoting awareness of unique Canadian requirements and market challenges
  • Manage all contract discussions and negotiations, achieving alignment and agreement with TMNA/TCNA and vendors for all contractual activities, including MSA/ASA, SOW and contract amendments

Enhance Work Processes and Efficiency:

  • Lock in and measure incremental success through the creation and maintenance of Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs)
  • Initiate and implement appropriate ‘kaizen’ (continuous improvement) efforts, which result in work efficiencies relating to improved time, process efficiencies, cost reduction or avoidance
  • Continual reflection of CT products and services offerings
  • Support and promote internal and external awareness of Connected Technologies

What You’ll Bring:

  • University Degree in Engineering, Software or Information Technology
  • P.Eng. designation or pursuing P.Eng. license
  • 10+ years of relevant work experience, preferably in vehicle infotainment systems and apps or in a technology product-focused role
  • Demonstrated technical and business leadership
  • Proactive, results-oriented mindset
  • Strategic mindset, project management and refined negotiating skills
  • Ability to operate in an ambiguous, face paced atmosphere with constantly changing, high-demand priorities
  • Comfortable with technology and technical issues with an ability to translate into non-technical terms
  • Ability to foster productive relationships with internal and external partners
  • Ability to travel on occasion
  • Bilingualism (French/English) an asset
