WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO YOU BRING

  • Your education will consist of a completed university degree in a related discipline or combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent. A University Degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred.
  • You must be registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario. Registration as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario (PEO) is mandatory.
  • Your application will reveal comprehensive knowledge of the electrical engineering discipline, as related to streetcar engineering.
  • Your application will reveal strong knowledge of rail vehicle systems such as doors, HVAC, brake, propulsion, vehicle control.
  • Your application will also reveal strong knowledge of project management concepts and practices with the ability to carry out and/or coordinate projects and studies.
  • Your application must reveal in-depth knowledge of vehicle testing procedures, programs and all associated electrical/electronic controls and quality controls concepts.
  • You must be conversant with electrically/electronically actuated pneumatic and hydraulic systems and principles.
  • Your application will also reveal sound judgement supported by excellent technical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Your application will reveal excellent communication, interpersonal and report writing skills.
  • Your application must also reveal that you are computer and software literate with good working knowledge of applications related to the work.
  • You must have or quickly acquire familiarity with the TTC’s streetcar vehicle fleet and associated electrical and electronic equipment, as well as the various functions carried out by the department.

Responsibilities:

  • You will be reporting to the Manager - Vehicle Maintenance Engineering, and you will manage the activities and provide expertise for the electrical engineering work associated with rail vehicles (i.e. streetcar).
  • You will work with, and coordinate the work performed by external agencies in an effort to solve complex technical problems that may arise.
  • You will investigate and diagnose complex electrical engineering problems and recommend cost effective solutions.
  • You will arrange for or conduct inspections or measurements, prepare new and/or modify existing technical specifications, maintenance and test procedures, coordinate and supervise testing and perform failure analysis and other studies.
  • You will also design complex electrical system solutions.
  • You will also direct and coordinate consultants, contractors and staff engaged in the work, assisting with supervision and training as required.
  • You will monitor and analyze vehicle reliability data and formulating programs to improve vehicle reliability.
  • You will prepare reports, document issues, provide expertise, and make recommendations related to assigned work in accordance with applicable regulations/codes and standards.
  • You will verify and approve electrical engineering drawings as a Professional Engineer.
  • Additionally, you will liaise with Group/Department staff, other Groups/Departments, and/or external organizations concerning matters regarding assigned work.
