JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The GE Aviation Senior Engineer / Technologist provides consultation and technical direction to the engineering community on near term and longer-range projects with substantial business impact. See GE Aviation Procedure 252.26, Controlled Titles for additional detail.
Areas of expertise for the Senior Engineer / Technologist in Rotor Assembly Stack and Balance Engineer role include intimate knowledge of rotor assembly practices and familiarity with multiple engine programs. Extensive knowledge of Balance Machines, Balance Machine controllers, Genspect Systems. The ability to provide analytical perspective to a wide variety of issues impacting rotor assembly stack and balance.
Responsibilities:
- Remain current in the state of the art within own technical specialty for NPI of both Military and Commercial products, performance improvements, cost reductions and problem resolutions
- Support other GE domestic and global businesses, supplier, and internal / external customers
- Serve as a recognized leader in defining stack and balance criteria for NPI and legacy products
- Solid understanding for trouble shooting of balance machine, stack stand metrology and arbor calibration techniques
- Provide engineering support, within one’s specialty, to teams working on performance, cost reductions and quality initiatives
- Leverage development expertise to help resolve problems in production and/or in the field
- Make recommendations after analysis of the data using quality tools
- Working domain knowledge and expertise of stack and balance software tools and equipment
- Protect the Intellectual Property rights of the Company
- Function as program manager, communicating and presenting key project milestones regularly to the leadership team
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineer
- Develop and implement training modules as necessary
- Participates in design board activities
- Creates documentation, training classes etc. for future Stack and Balance Engineers as well as stack and balance technicians
- Be the technical liaison to equipment manufacturers providing technical specifications and assuring on-time machine/equipment delivery
Role Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Mathematics
- Minimum of 8yrs experience in Assembly stack and balance operations
- Ability to create and teach rotor stack and balance concepts, develop training modules, and contribute to Assembly Practices (stack and balance)
- Ability to write machine specifications, lead ordering, machine runoffs, installations and final acceptance. Be the technical liaison to equipment manufacturers providing technical direction and assuring on-time machine/equipment delivery.
- Demonstrated experience of how assembly process data impacts engine performance and test, drive data correlations and help establish process boundaries/definition
- Experience designing balance tooling. Capable of defining the correct tooling limits, process and tolerances for the required balancing applications
