We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Engineering Officer to join the Contestable Design team. This role would ideally be based within Essential Energy’s operational footprint throughout NSW although we would consider candidates located anywhere within NSW.
The Contestable Design team are responsible for managing the design aspects for new connections to Essential Energy’s Network. We provide comprehensive design information to connecting customers and review design submissions for certification. Contestable works represent a growth area for Essential Energy, aligning with our corporate objectives of driving connections and load, and facilitating the uptake of electric vehicles.

ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE

  • Extensive experience in a similar role in the Energy/Electrical and/or Utilities Industry
  • Sound understanding of energy regulatory legislation.
  • Complete knowledge and application of current overhead and underground design philosophies, procedures, Australian standards and statutory requirements including Safety in Design.
  • Demonstrated experience in utilising analytical skills and technical knowledge to provide appropriate solutions to technical/engineering issues.

ABOUT YOUR SKILLS

  • Demonstrated problem solving and decision-making skills with the ability to manage diverse and complex issues.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to deliver technical services in a professional and timely manner
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to produce quality work.
  • Strong time management skills with excellent planning and organisational skills, to be able to handle a varying complex workload
  • Experience in designing distribution networks is favourable

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering with electives in Heavy Power, related to the Electricity Supply Industry or demonstrated equivalent capability through past employment experience and aligned qualifications
  • WorkCover NSW Construction Induction Certificate
  • Current Driver’s Licence

Responsibilities:

As a Design and Certification Officer you will be responsible for providing high level technical advice to external clients, consultants, project managers and Level 3 accredited service providers. Your responsibilities will include preparing design information packs and assessing/certifying design submissions to ensure that the proposed works are safe, maintainable, sustainable and compliant with Essential Energy’s standards while maximising stakeholder engagement.
The role is also responsible for providing support to construction inspectors and other officers by providing advice on design and connection matters as required.
