Description:
The Sr. Engineering Scientist is a multi-dimensional role that uses scientific and mathematical principles to research, design, and develop new land and maritime sensor technology, products and processes. This position requires a motivated individual who will collaborate with senior scientists and successfully lead projects to architect real-time, complex, automated acoustic and hydro-acoustic data acquisition and analysis systems. This position requires multi-disciplined systems engineering skills and a high emphasis in physical science and engineering specifically for data acquisition, testing, and evaluation, and the ability to produce and maintain written documentation.
The ideal individual will have a proven and extensive track record of successful technical experience delivering results and leadership within complex highly technical programs, and possess a strong understanding of system engineering, multidisciplinary processes, technical principles, and practical techniques.
This is a multi-dimensional role with external and internal customer written and verbal communications relating to technology, opportunities, and project planning and execution. The Sr. Engineering Scientist will participate as a key technical resource to support opportunity development, execution, and delivery of key program areas.
Applicant must be highly organized, have excellent attention to detail, and possess sound scientific judgement. The position will require effective management of their own time with the ability to plan, coordinate, and execute multiple tasks simultaneously.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or other applied science
- 10 years of applicable experience in electrical engineering, applied mathematics, digital signal processing, and sensor design
- Demonstrated experience with sonar and/or seismic data acquisition systems
- Demonstrated experience in a Research, Development, Testing and Evaluation environment
- Demonstrated experience with the collection and analysis of time-series data streams
- Programming skills in C, C++, Matlab, and/or Python
- Knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
- Experience with UNIX/LINUX operating systems
- Experience using statistical analysis
- Ability to travel in support of meetings and field work
- Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position.
DESIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:
- Graduate degree in applicable field, or equivalent in experience
- Experience working T&E projects at Navy test ranges
- Overseeing the design, development, integration, and testing of new product systems
- Experience with sensor systems fundamental performance assessment and modeling
- Experience in algorithm development
- Expertise in digital signal processing (DSP) and time series analysis
- Knowledge of array design and experience in array signal processing, especially for multi-target multi-sensor systems
- Experience with developing automated classification methodologies
- Experience with machine learning and/or artificial intelligence applications
- Knowledge of wave propagation in complicated media such as oceans and layered rock
- Experience with development, testing, and evaluation of automated detection, classification, localization, and tracking (DCLT) signal and information processing pipelines
- Writing skills sufficient to develop Algorithm Description Documents, test plans, and test reports
