Senior Environment Officer - Trees & Woodland
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a senior officer to join our Environment and Climate team in the Planning and Environment Service. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering Lancashire’s ambitious climate targets and nature recovery goals through woodland creation and tree planting projects.
We are looking for someone who is experienced, self-motivated, and enthusiastic about addressing climate change and environment challenges. The post holder will provide technical / professional advice on woodland creation and tree planting matters and will have responsbility for identifying and developing strategy and project opportunities for tree planting and carbon capture projects.
The post holder will line manage a team of four woodland funding and community engagement officers who are in the final year of delivering an ambitious 2-year programme to plant 170 hectares of rural woodland and 30,000 urban and peri-urban trees in greater Lancashire by 2025.
Applicants will be expected to hold a degree level qualification, plus experience in a similar role or be able to demonstrate significant vocational experience. A good understanding of local authority approaches to woodland creation and tree planting is required, in addition to effective communication skills and the ability to build relationships both internally and externally.
The post sits in the Environment and Climate Team, as part of the Environment and Climate Service, however, the role will involve regular close working with a range of disciplines from across the council including Estates, Asset Management, Highways & Transport, as well as external stakeholders such as the district and unitary council’s and organisations such as the Rivers Trusts, Groundwork Trust, Woodland Trust, Forestry Commission and Wildlife Trust in delivery and implementation.
