Join our Power T &D team as a Senior Environmental Sustainability Advisor on the BB Power Scotland Project and you’ll deliver complex work that really matters to our business, and the world around you.
We are looking for a Senior Environment & Sustainability Advisor to deliver
environmental management requirements and actions and support our sustainability
strategy.
The role will provide strategic direction, support and guidance to our project teams
on all aspects of environmental management, meeting legal and company standards
and helping deliver a culture of continual improvement. It will support site-based
project design, construction controls and mitigations, sustainability opportunities and
deliver against client led contractual requirements. A key part of the role will be
engagement with clients, stakeholders, subcontractors, and environmental
authorities.

Specifically, the role holder will directly support the Environmental Manager to:

  • Work closely with project teams to deliver environmental and sustainabilitycommitments, ensuring ongoing compliance with Balfour Beatty BMS andcustomer requirements, working with clients such as SSEN and or SPEN.
  • Oversee monthly performance reporting against client KPIs and internaltargets, seeking to make continuous improvements in process and quality ofdata

THE FOLLOWING QUALITIES/EXPERIENCE ARE ESSENTIAL:

  • Strong knowledge of environment management with the relevant experienceworking in a construction environment.
  • Practical experience and sound knowledge of environmental statutoryrequirements, including environmental legislation, ecology mitigation,environmental licencing and consent applications and regulation.
  • Understanding of the benefits of working collaboratively to obtain the bestoutcome.
  • Good interpersonal, communication and influencing skills.
  • Determination to see tasks through to completion, with excellent planning andorganisation skills.
  • Interpreting and managing data via databases, consistent record keeping andwriting detailed reports.
  • Full UK driver’s licence and flexibility to travel.
  • Literate in MS Office - Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Professional Membership level of a relevant professional body(IEMA/CIEEM/CIWEM).
  • Experience of deputising for more senior role.

THE FOLLOWING QUALITIES/EXPERIENCE ARE DESIRABLE:

  • Good knowledge and practical experience of developing, implementingand improving EMS’s certified to ISO 14001 accreditation.
  • Internal environmental auditor qualification.
  • Knowledge of the Construction Industry - specifically understanding of thepower/construction/engineering operating environment.
  • Experience of taking on new challenges in a systematic and enthusiasticmanner.
  • Managing legislative issues for clients, including planning permissions andconsents.
  • Good understanding of ecological constraints within a constructionenvironment including ecological calendar, licensing and mitigation

Responsibilities:

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • You will contribute to the strategic implementation of our sustainability plan,driving actions, monitoring progress and reporting to senior EnvironmentalSustainability Team.
  • Manage project environmental risks and opportunities, supporting projectteams to develop and maintain local environmental and sustainabilitymanagement plans and risk assessments.
  • Actively lead environment and sustainability, engaging project teams toencourage and promote sustainable behaviours and innovations, deliverpositive outcomes and maintain project documentation.
  • Provide support and advice on environmental management, compliance andproject specific mitigation measures including pollution control and ecologyprotection.
  • Support Environmental Advisors/Consultants and liaise with other groupsustainability teams to deliver best sustainability outcomes.
  • Direct and support teams’ applications for consent, licences or permits asrequired and ensure project/contract environmental complianceresponsibilities are maintained.
  • Upskill the project team and contractors on environment and sustainabilityresponsibilities and controls via work package plans, toolbox talks and on-sitelearning and development. Developing a plan for education and reportingprogress.
  • Ensure upload of environmental data monthly to the sustainability portal,working with project teams to develop the most effective process.
  • Deliver monthly environmental sustainability performance reporting to theclient to meet project specific requirements.
  • Be involved at the planning stage to support design teams to identify andcontrol risk and identify opportunities to reduce carbon, waste and biodiversitynet loss.
  • Liaise with client, regulatory bodies and subcontractors on matters ofenvironmental management and sustainability
