Purpose:
The Senior Facilities Engineer will be responsible for leading and managing technical support to the operations and maintenance groups. This includes optimizing existing facilities, modifications, managing/executing the Management of Change process, oversight of the execution of capital projects, and actively participating in budgeting, project identification, and process safety management. Based in Grande Prairie, AB, the successful candidate will foster a collaborative relationship with both the Calgary based engineering teams and the field-based development, operations, engineering & maintenance teams, and will play a key role in mentoring and supervising junior engineers and interns.

Main Responsibilities & Activities:

  • Lead, mentor, and supervise junior engineers and interns in the coordination and execution of the management of change initiation.
  • Participate in and oversee budgeting, project identification, development, and prioritization.
  • Direct and oversee facilities optimization activities including debottlenecking, modifications, rationalizing consolidations, scoping projects, and other potential operating cost reduction initiatives.
  • Develop and implement process safety management protocols and standards.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Calgary based facilities engineers and field-based development teams in the project scoping, design, and project management of various gas and oil field related facilities.
  • Strategically plan and evaluate facility/pipeline requirements for current and future capital development, utilizing process/pipeline simulation software where applicable.
  • Lead and drive the annual budgeting process and efficient execution of annual budget capital.
  • Ensure and oversee the implementation of best engineering practices and safe work practices.
  • Monitor and evaluate the facility construction supervisor’s (FCS) work, ensuring that fit-for-purpose designs are constructed and engineering design requirements are met.
  • Provide strategic guidance to the regulatory group ensuring that facilities and infrastructure are compliant and offer executive-level recommendations on non-compliant facilities.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and registration as a P.Eng with APEGS.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Advanced experience in both oil and gas field operations and maintenance is essential.
  • Proven expertise in the Canadian upstream oil and gas industry including capital project planning, budgeting, and execution.
  • Leadership and mentorship experience with proven ability to foster teamwork, motivate colleagues, and develop junior staff.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and supervisory skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of all regulatory requirements in the jurisdiction.
  • Highly analytical with the ability to work at both the field and corporate level.
  • Strong decision-making skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Clean driving record with experience driving in rural environments and in inclement conditions.
  • Collaborative mindset who enjoys learning, leading, and contributing to team goals.
