    The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Senior Family Engagement Worker to provide a critical role at Dame Phyllis Frost Centre.
    About the Business Unit
    The Corrections and Justice Services (CJS) group, comprising Corrections Victoria (CV), Justice Health and Justice Services, plays an integral role in developing safer and more resilient communities and in delivering a trusted justice and community safety system.
    CV is responsible for the implementation of policies, programs and services that ensure the safe and secure containment of prisoners, and that seek to rehabilitate offenders by addressing the underlying causes of offending behaviour.
    About the Role
    The Senior Family Engagement Worker will actively lead, plan, consult and advise on service and program development, and the implementation and delivery of family engagement measures and will support the implementation of a new Family Therapy Service. The role will proactively identify emerging needs and issues of incarcerated mothers to ensure responsivity to strategic, operational and service demands as well as actively contribute to and inform ongoing service and quality improvement to ensure best practice is maintained. The Senior Family Engagement Worker at DPFC will lead and drive strategic development, planning and implementation for a consolidated Family Engagement Service across the Women’s Prison System, including how this service complements existing offender management frameworks and case planning.
    Additionally, the role will include building relationships with other Government departments, such as the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Child Protection, to develop strategies that assist women’s transition to the family unit and the community in general.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Travel between both locations will be required as well as occasional weekend work to support children and family activities and events throughout the calendar year

Responsibilities:

SOME OF YOUR DUTIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Lead the design and implementation of the newly developed Family Engagement Service, including managing referrals, through care and information sharing requirements.
  • Take a lead role in building effective relationships with local Aboriginal communities, organisations and professional groups to ensure their input into service delivery.
  • Oversee and facilitate delivery of parenting programs (such as Triple P Parenting Program).

    About you

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL HAVE:

  • An understanding or demonstrated experience of working with women with complex needs and applying a trauma informed approach to work is highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of complexities associated with women in custody, including transition and reintegration issues and needs of women prisoners.
  • Extensive specialist expertise working with women and their families.
  • Ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal communities.
