We are looking for highly skilled, forward thinking and energetic criminal lawyers, with an aptitude for criminal law and an understanding of the important role an independent prosecutor plays in our system of criminal justice. You will also have a desire to develop your career with the diverse, stimulating and complex prosecution work of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (Cth) (CDPP).
Responsibilities:
As a Senior Federal Prosecutor (SFP), you will utilise cutting edge technology to assess briefs of evidence. You will apply relevant legislation, policy and procedures to frame criminal charges and determine how allegations of criminal wrongdoing are to be alleged before the court. You will exercise judgement to make legal decisions and recommendations, sometimes working to deadlines within tight timeframes. You will have carriage of significant prosecutions on behalf of the Director and will provide legal advice to the Director and partner agencies to drive prosecution outcomes.
You will represent the Director in court and in forums and conferences and instruct counsel in complex matters. You will build rapport with internal and external stakeholders and will be able to maintain effective and productive working relationships with others. You will also provide coaching and mentoring to more junior legal staff with the aim of enhancing the legal capability of the CDPP.
