Description:

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.
Please see below for detailed job description of the role.
This is a new Senior Fellow post within our Neurology team here at the Wessex Neurological Centre (WNC) with a specialist focus on supporting patients who have been diagnosised with Mutliple Sclerosis (MS). Our MS team is the busy hub of a ‘hub and spoke’ model for the Wessex region so this is a brilliant opportunity for the successful candidate to build their knowledge and understanding of this group of patients.
The role will be predominantly based at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust but we are delighted that this role will also work with the neurology team based at University Hospitals Dorset (approx. 2 days per month) so this is an excellent opportunity to develop network links and partnership working.
The Neurology service at WNC has a well established team of 30 Consultant colleagues along with a range of specialist nurses, neuropsychology and neuroradiology to name a few.

Responsibilities:

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Your role will be to work within the multiple sclerosis multidisciplinary team alongside five MS consultants, MS specialist nurses, MS infusion nurses, MS pharmacists and MS co-ordinators. You will conduct weekly multiple sclerosis clinics supported by the MS consultant team, primarily to make decisions about disease modifying treatment and to follow-up patients on long term therapy. There will be a particular emphasis on supporting MS patients with acute clinical issues including relapses and complications of treatment, with the provision of additional telephone clinics to aid this. You will be required to actively engage in the multiple sclerosis MDT meetings and provide advice and support for patients changing therapies as an outcome of the MDT. You will be expected to support audit, research and governance activities within the multiple sclerosis service. You will also provide support to the general neurology service with a weekly general clinic in Southampton and two days per month working with the neurology team in Dorset.
