Description:

SUMMARY

Responsible for managing and maintaining customer relationships. Responsible for customer service requests and requirements as well as acquiring new business opportunities. Attend customer scheduled or emergency outages and assist with installations, commissioning and preventative maintenance on equipment. Also responsible for performing mechanical duties, testing and inspections as required on equipment in the SMS Valparaiso workshop and/or at a vendor facility.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Visit customers regularly for sales and service calls, ensuring that customers in designated sales areas are visited with a view to selling them SMS products and services, while identifying customer needs and resources
  • Reviews blueprints, plans, and other customer documents to develop and prepare cost estimates or projected increases in production from client’s use of proposed equipment or services.
  • Draws up or proposes changes in equipment, processes, or use of materials or services which would result in cost reduction or improvement in operations.
  • Provides technical services to clients relating to use, operation, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Presents to customers on new company technology / equipment to ensure they are aware of the latest solutions available from SMS group
  • Develop opportunities for the company and serve as a point person in developing proposals.
  • Provides technical training to employees of client.
  • Supports workshop with repairs / refurbishment of client’s equipment.
  • Provides QA/QC support with DIA inspections and reports related to client’s equipment.
  • Interface with project management, engineers, technical personnel and other staff as needed to complete projects

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; Fifth year college or university program certificate; or 5-7 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Broad knowledge and experience in durable goods industry gained at successive levels of responsibility in multiple areas of plant management/operation.
  • Knowledge of blast furnace equipment required.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Must be able to read prints / drawings.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts.
  • Frequent travel within the North American region (USA, Canada, Mexico).
  • Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic & piping systems.
  • Knowledge of disassembly, assembly, machining and fabrication methods including MIG, SMAW & TIG welding practices.
  • Demonstrated prior success in achieving results using team driven philosophies.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of AutoCad.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Valid passport is required.
