Description:
- Senior Field Supervisor EBMP 1-2 Enhanced Bushfire Management Program (EBMP)
- Ongoing full-time opportunity (35 hours per week)
- Office location - Toormina - 35 Craft Close
- Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $94,287 to $101,238 + super
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Current Drivers Licence demonstrated ability and experience in operating 4wd vehicles, and ability to obtain a First Aid Certificate.
- Demonstrated ability to carry out frontline firefighting duties and incident management roles including ability to maintain certification as a crew leader or higher, within the probationary period (up to 12 months), certification and experience in chainsaw operation to at least cross-cut and basic tree-felling level, ability to operate two-way radio, and willingness to fly in a light aircraft.
Notes: This is a physically demanding role, requiring heavy muscular activity, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling loads, bending, climbing, and driving a variety of vehicles. Candidates must meet the requirements of a firefighting medical which in inclusive of a clearance to undertake frontline firefighting roles. The candidate must pass the task-based fitness assessment to a moderate level within the probationary period (up to 12 months) and annually thereafter.
A current Working with Children Check (WWCC) is an essential requirement for this role. The role has been identified as requiring this check in line with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012.

ABOUT THE ROLE
National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique opportunity for a Senior Field Supervisor EBMP to work as part of the team and contribute towards the conservation of the natural environment, flora, fauna, and Aboriginal heritage.
Reporting to the Team Leader Fire, you’ll will lead and supervise two Field Supervisors at different geographical locations (Toormina & Alstonville) and seven Field Officers who make up the North Coast Branch Bushfire Management Program Field Team. You will work closely with all the field officers and other fire team staff to co-ordinate, supervise, and implement the Bushfire Program for the North Coast Branch. The Bushfire Management Program field team is primarily involved in fuel reduction activities by both mechanical means and prescribed fire and, during periods of high bushfire activity, will be required to participate in bushfire suppression or other bushfire response functions.
The position requires travel across the North Coast Branch working with the five operational Area’s and their Team Leaders Operations to support the delivery of their fire program works and to help facilitate their preparedness and response for wildfire.
You would be expected to be involved in and lead fire ground operations including hazard reduction burns and wildfire suppression operations.
Supervising and developing a team plays a critical role as well as your ability to adapt to change, finding solutions to problems and ensuring safety is always a priority. Heavy plant experience is an advantage as the team operates a variety of heavy plant to carry out it works program. This includes beaver tailed MR trucks, dozers, and skid steer loaders with mulching heads for vegetation management.
To Be successful in the role you will have:
- You will be an experience leader of field teams and ideally have bushfire fighting qualifications and experience.
- The ability to develop works and maintenance programs including project planning, working to specifications, documentation, cost estimates, procurement, and monitoring.
- Experience supervising a team by setting and maintaining performance standards and ensuring codes of conduct and met.
- Experience in the use and operation of heavy plant and equipment including managing a workshop and overseeing vehicle fleet management. The role also requires managing and maintaining diverse range of small plant and other equipment.
- Have ability to use corporate systems and procedures and use, manage and report using Departments Asset Management Systems.
- Lead by example with a strong safety culture and apply Department safe work procedures and risk assessment
