JOB OVERVIEW:

The Senior Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing a team and their portfolios of condominiums and /or cooperatives in New York City. The ideal candidate must demonstrate strong leadership, organizational and multitasking skills and have advanced knowledge of residential real estate properties.
Strong financial acumen and ability to understand financial statements is imperative in this role as this position requires meeting with board members and clients to discuss the financial status of their properties.
The Senior Finance Manager will act as a strategic intermediary between financial reporting, property management, and the external Board of Directors ("Clients"). This position is focused on elevating client satisfaction by strengthening client relationships; additionally, the role involves facilitating effective communication and coordinating efforts across internal departments to ensure seamless service delivery.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance from a four-year college or university or related work experience is preferred. CPA is a plus.
  • 6-8 years of experience in the property management industry or real estate fields, with client facing experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to delivering excellent client experiences and maintaining high client satisfaction levels.
  • Knowledge of assets, cash balance, and availability of funds for projects and cash flow management for capital improvements.
  • Excellent organization, motivation, leadership, management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Critical thinking, complex problem solving, judgement and decision-making ability.
  • Strong verbal, presentation, and written communication skills. Ability to communicate and provide guidance to all employee and client levels.
  • Must have previous experience in directly supervising one or more associates.
  • Must have strong proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office, including but not limited to Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook. Proficiency researching the Internet.
  • Previous experience with financial and accounting programs such as Yardi, MDS or other property management accounting software is a plus.
  • Must be able to keep up in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment while maintaining a cool, calm, and collected attitude.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment as well as independently. Must be self-driven with the ability to identify, plan and prioritize projects and assignments and be able to hit important deadlines.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing a team of Finance Managers
  • Participate and lead the financial portion of client meetings.
  • De-escalating potential client relations issues in a positive and decisive manner.
  • Informing major stakeholders of all changes or additions to our Financial Management services, software updates, or changes to departmental policies.
  • Offering guidance and expert advice to clients regarding our company’s Financial Management procedures and reporting processes.
  • Building, maintaining, and improving relations between Financial Management team and our clients.
  • Responding to clients’ questions and providing helpful feedback and suggestions within Financial Management area.
  • Oversee 1098 filing processes.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Being able to review high volume of reports and perform various analyses of monthly/quarterly/annual reports, with excellent attention to detail and a proper sense of urgency.
  • Strictly adhere to departmental Best Practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Review and present monthly financial statements.
  • Review the actual to budget performance variances and prepare financial narrative for clients.
  • Oversee year end audit process by working closely with audit firms and Financial Reporting team.
  • Oversee the budgeting process.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Practices and adheres to FirstService Residential Global Service Standards.
  • Always conducts business with the highest standards of personal, professional, and ethical conduct.
  • Performs or assists with any operations as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules. Notifies supervision of unusual equipment or operating problems and the need for additional material and supplies.
  • May participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems, and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, policies, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Ensures all safety precautions are followed while performing the work.
  • Follows all policies and Standard Operating Procedures as instructed by Management.
  • Performs any range of special projects, tasks and other related duties as assigned.
