Description:
The Finance and Planning Directorate in NHS England is looking for talented, diverse, highly motivated people to join the Financial Oversight and Delivery team as a Senior Finance Manager Financial Oversight and Delivery - workstream: Financial Planning and Reporting (System).
This is a fantastic opportunity to be at the heart of the NHS. In the Finance and Planning directorate we:
- ensure the NHS lives within its annual budget set by Parliament.
- set out the financial and performance priorities the NHS should be delivering each year.
- report how much the NHS has spent on providing services each year.
As a Senior Finance Manager you will be a key member of NHS England Financial Oversight and Delivery team and will play an important role in leading or supporting:
- Deployment of matrix working to co-ordinate work across all planning functions. You will plan capacity, monitor progress and manage challenges arising on a daily basis to ensure work is completed on time.
- The development of policies and approaches to financial planning across the NHS to reflect the financial framework and operational priorities of NHS England.
- The work of the team
o engaging with a range of relevant stakeholders.
o on the design, build, testing, publication of financial planning templates, tools and technical guidance.
o on the design, build, testing, publication of financial planning reports and tools.
- Detailed plan data analytical reviews.
PLEASE DEMONSTRATE YOUR EXPERIENCE IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:
- Qualified accountant or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in a specialised finance area. You will need an understanding of the NHS financial framework; ideally with experience of working at a senior level within the NHS
- Responsible for deploying matrix working across planning functions and capacity management. You will require experience managing multi-disciplinary teams, working to evolving timelines. Please evidence how you have been able to flexibly manage your teams to respond to changing demands
- You will lead the work of the team engaging with a range of stakeholders. This includes responding to queries, and issuing national communications to NHS organisations. Please evidence your communication skills and your experience in stakeholder engagement
- You will lead the work of the team on the design, build, testing, publication of financial planning templates, tools, technical guidance. All senior leads are required to have EXCEL skills to an advanced level. Please evidence your skills
- You will lead on the design, build, testing, publication of financial planning reports and tools. To lead detailed plan data analytical reviews. The team currently use PowerBI and EXCEL for our reporting and analytical work, in conjunction with Alteryx for data transformation. Please evidence your skills in the use of data manipulation/ analytical applications

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.
Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.
NHS England hold a Sponsor Licence; this means that we may be able to sponsor you providing the Home Office requirements are met. To be eligible for sponsorship through the Skilled Worker route you’ll usually need to be paid the ‘standard’ salary rate of at least £38,700 per year, or the ‘going rate’ for your job, whichever is higher.
