About the role

The purpose of this role is to support the Business Manager, STARS by providing:

  • Assistance in the development of the annual budget and ongoing forecast process.
  • Routine monitoring and analysis of business activities.
  • Co-ordination of month-end financial activities to accurately record transactions in a timely manner.
  • Assistance in the development of high-level advice to the Business Manager and other senior leaders that enables strategic decision making by the Service Line and Hospital executive to deal with ongoing change within the public health environment.
  • A detailed understanding of the business functions, and a focus on efficiency and opportunities for improvement.

About you

This successful applicant will carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health’s values:

  • Work closely with the Business Manager, STARS Executive and broader hospital and Service Line Management.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the various financial and non-financial information systems that can provide useful management information to assist in the ongoing management of the business units within STARS.
  • Provide analysis, recommendation and advice to managers, directors and clinicians on information extracted from corporate information systems such as the costing system, DSS and S/4HANA, to assist in the strategic management process for the Service Line.
  • Provide monthly reporting and comprehensive analysis of the Service’s performance in terms of expenditure, FTE and activity, identifying and explaining any relevant variances. Assist the business unit in the development of strategies to manage variances.
  • Assist in determining the information requirements for routine or ad-hoc reports and identify any analyse data gaps and recommend where the provision of such data on an ongoing basis will improve the reporting of clinical and business activity, benchmarking or performance indicators.
  • Model activity, costs and budgets in response to current and/or proposed activity and organisational change. Provide advice on the options for managing emerging and known trends in business practice that affect the cost of health care service delivery or the reimbursement of costs for the delivery of those products and service.
  • Review revenue streams and improve reporting systems in addition to identifying revenue opportunities within the facility.
