PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal for extended periods of time; and extensive reading. The incumbent is also required to stand and sit for extended periods of time.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Accounting and equivalent experience required.
  • Completed CPA designation or working towards is required. Experience verification and mentorship under a CPA can be provided to complete the CPA designation.
  • 2-4 years experience in public practice and/or experience in midsized business accounting is a strong asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively with internal and external resources.
  • Excellent time management and organization skills to simultaneously handle and prioritize multiple tasks/projects.
  • Very strong analytical, attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, articulate ideas, and react appropriately under pressure.
  • Proficient in the use of computer programs (MS Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) with working knowledge of Excel at a high level

Responsibilities:

The Senior Financial Accountant is responsible for providing support with the day-to-day accounting functions of the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Displays a commitment to Waiward’s incident-free vision, values, and culture.
  • Financial Accounting - Partner JV Entities
  • Compiles financial reporting packages for separate legal JV entities:
  • Prepares month, and year-end financial statements, which includes month-end reconciliations, journal entries, and coding.
  • Ensures account reconciliations and/or working papers are complete in a timely manner with appropriate follow-up on discrepancies (prepaids & deposits, capital assets, bank, etc.).
  • Completes accurate and timely government remittances (GST reconciliations & filing).
  • Provides financial information and regulatory reporting to the leadership team by analyzing accounting data and preparing reports for strategic decision making.
  • Completes ad-hoc financial information requests from finance and operational departments.
  • Management Support Functions

    • Supports external audit requirements.
  • Supports annual inventory count process.
  • Maintains current knowledge of regulatory changes and impacts on the organization.
  • Supports Chief Financial Officer and Manager, Financial Reporting with planning, analysis and financial reporting.
  • Identifies and assists with implementation of process efficiencies.
