POSITION OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Manager, Reporting & Policy, the Senior Financial Analyst, Financial & Capital Reporting will support the financial reporting function through assisting with month-end close deliverables, preparing materials to management and Board levels, addressing auditors’ requests, assisting on accounting treatment and policy matters, and helping with the preparation of the year-end financial statements. Additionally, the incumbent will support the Capital & Regulatory Reporting Manager through preparing regulatory returns and supporting financial information, keeping up-to-date on any new regulatory updates, and researching and assessing the implications of these new policies on the Company. Assisting with various compliance and administrative functions of the Corporate Accounting department is also the responsibility of this role.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University Degree, CPA designation and 5 to 7 years experience in accounting and/or financial reporting
  • Good understanding of IFRS
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Deadline-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including effective written and oral communication, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment
  • Ability to work well under pressure and maintain high productivity, particularly at busy times of year
  • Advanced working knowledge of PC applications including Excel

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for performing accounting and financial reporting functions including:
  • Gather and coordination with outside teams to prepare monthly journal entries
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, schedules and reporting templates
  • Conduct analysis of financial results against prior periods and plan
  • Assist in internal, compliance, shareholder and board of directors’ reporting
  • Prepare regulatory returns to regulators, which include OSFI, CDIC, Stats Canada, and other provincial regulators.
  • Provide technical knowledge and input on regulatory and capital adequacy related requirements, by keeping abreast of new developments issued by various regulatory bodies. This includes providing analysis to inquiries (often ad-hoc) on a timely basis.
  • Liaise with and gather information from other departments and business units to prepare necessary supporting schedules to the regulatory returns and year-end financial statements.
  • Support the internal and external audit processes.
  • Assist with maintenance of financial reporting systems as directed
  • Execute existing process controls and implement additional controls as required.
  • Strive for operational excellence through ongoing process improvements
  • Prepare and assist in daily Capital and Leverage reporting and other ad hoc regulatory requests
  • Prepare ad hoc financial analysis and coordinate and maintain historical performance and financial records.
  • Participate in ad-hoc management and strategic projects.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other duties within Corporate Accounting as required.
