If so, consider this opportunity to work with the Forensic Investigations Section, where you will plan and conduct investigations of complex cases for the Ministry of Finance, other ministries and broader public sector organizations.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • You have in-depth knowledge of accounting theory, practices, policies and audit standards to understand and analyze complex business accounting systems.
  • You have extensive knowledge of investigative techniques, judicial processes, rules of evidence, court procedures and related legislation such as Provincial Offences Act, Ontario and Canada Evidence Act, Charter of Rights and Criminal Code of Canada.
  • You have knowledge of the latest case law, reports, judgements and precedents related to tax law.
  • You have project management skills to plan, conduct, co-ordinate and lead special projects.
  • You have a comprehensive understanding of the policies, procedures and practices of the Investigations and Inspections Section.

LEADERSHIP, INTERPERSONAL AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

  • You have leadership skills to direct and provide technical support and guidance to investigators and teams.
  • You have interpersonal skills to effectively deal with all levels of the organization, other government agencies, investigation subjects, and legal and accounting representatives.
  • You have excellent verbal communication skills to conduct, lead and mentor staff during interviews with complainants, informants, witnesses, suspects and legal counsel and to deliver presentations.
  • You have written communication skills to draft legal reports and documents used for court proceedings and to develop branch manuals and training materials.

RESEARCH, ANALYTICAL AND PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS:

  • You have superior analytical, planning and problem solving skills to determine whether violations occurred, to assess the nature of the alleged contraventions and to develop a course of action.
  • You have research skills to gather information and evidence sufficient to warrant legal action.
  • You have sound judgement to apply enforcement policy to complex/sensitive matters.

COMPUTER AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SKILLS:

  • You have thorough knowledge of computer systems and computer software to understand computerized accounting records.
  • You have the ability to analyze computerized data and use common analytical software.

Responsibilities:

You will:

  • conduct, coordinate and lead investigative examinations and forensic/financial analyses including search and seizure actions, securing evidence, locating and interviewing subjects and third-party witnesses and/or legal representatives.
  • provide mentoring, leadership and guidance to staff and teams by planning, directing, monitoring and analyzing work assignments.
  • draft, review and edit forensic accounting reports, affidavits and search warrants, and testify to the results of your investigations in court.
  • develop, deliver and participate in training sessions, courses and presentations related to the delivery of an effective enforcement program.
  • participate in joint forces operations with other enforcement jurisdictions.
