The Bus Maintenance and Shops Department is looking for a Senior Foreperson!
The successful incumbent will have a proven track record of success when it comes to managing employees (union and non-unionized employees) with an emphasis on employee safety, operational efficiency and cost effectiveness to meet business needs.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO YOU BRING
- Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent
- Directly related work experience with the inspection, maintenance and repair of diesel automotive components and vehicle bodies specific to large commercial vehicles
- Possession of a valid Truck & Coach Technician Certificate (310-T)
- Automotive Service Technician 310-S certificate is an asset, and is mandatory if re-assigned to the Non-Revenue section
- The successful candidate will possess 2 years or more supervisory experience in a unionized capacity.
- Knowledge of the mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and air conditioning systems utilized on urban transit vehicles
- Sound knowledge of the diagnostic, inspection, repair and maintenance procedures of components and vehicle body structure
- Understanding of various skills associated with the maintenance of urban transit vehicles such as: mechanical, body/paint repair, wheel/tire installation, etc.
- Good understanding of the applicable regulations governing the maintenance of commercial vehicles (e.g. Bill 55, MTO Certification) and applicable environmental regulations, (WHMIS, Gasoline Handling Act, etc.)
- Must acquire thorough knowledge of the Local 113 Collective Agreement, Maintenance Seniority Regulations, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Highway Traffic Act, Labour Relations Act, Environment Protection Act, etc.)
- A valid Province of Ontario class “G” driver’s license with the ability to obtain a class “CZ” license
- May be required to obtain an Internal Combustion Alternate Fuel Technician certification for propane (ICE/P) and become a “Certified Member” in accordance with OHSA regulations.
- Must acquire and maintain proficiency in CPR and standard First Aid
- This position provides training and experience opportunities that may prepare incumbents for a Manager position in the Bus Maintenance & Shops Department
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical expertise, guidance, assistance and recommendations for the area of responsibility as needed
- Plan, adjust, and project work, schedules, costs, and systems as needed
- Complete tasks in relation to managing people, including administrative duties along with approving/authorizing requests ensuring they are within established standards, related policies and compliance regulations
- Conducting training sessions, undertaking procedural quality audits and investigating technical issues, safety, accidents and discipline matters
- Perform various tasks in relation to achieving objectives and meeting business requirements
