Description:
Make Ergonomics Work Better for Everyone
Are you an experienced, well-rounded developer who loves solving unique technical challenges and wants to see your work make a real impact? Join Workhappy, the UK’s leading provider of DSE (Display Screen Equipment) workstation assessments, and help us transition to Elixir as we evolve our flagship product, Ergofy. You’ll collaborate directly with our Co-Founder CTO and CEO, shaping our future engineering decisions and truly influencing people’s day-to-day well-being at work.
About Workhappy & Ergofy
Workhappy has been in business for 8 years, growing organically and profitably, and we’re currently expanding by 40% year on year. Our tight-knit team of 15 is dedicated to improving workplace well-being worldwide through Ergofy, a platform that streamlines ergonomic assessments with intuitive software, data-driven insights, and personalised e-health support. If you’re looking to make a tangible difference while honing your technical expertise, this is the place for you.
Why Join Us
- Influence & Autonomy: Collaborate directly with our Co-Founder CTO, CEO, and designers to make key decisions from Day One.
- Small Team, Big Impact: Your contributions will directly shape our product and culture—no endless layers of management here.
- Mission That Matters: Our platform genuinely improves people’s working lives, helping them stay healthy and productive.
- Work-Life Balance: Global remote role with flexible hours (minimum 4 hours overlap with UK time), so you can set a schedule that works for you.
- Growth Potential: Join a profitable company accelerating at 40% year on year, bringing ample opportunity for personal and professional development.
Your Role
As our first full-time Senior Full-Stack Elixir Developer, you will:
- End-to-End Development: Own features from concept to deployment, producing high-quality, well-tested code.
- Architectural Leadership: Work closely with our CTO to transition from Rails/React to Elixir (Phoenix with LiveView) and refine our system architecture.
- Technical Collaboration: Partner with UX designers and key stakeholders to translate ideas into robust, scalable solutions.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify optimisation opportunities in the existing codebase and processes, balancing rapid delivery with long-term sustainability.
- Culture & Mentorship: Establish coding standards and best practices, fostering a healthy engineering culture as we grow.
What We’re Looking For
We want someone who:
- Loves to Solve Problems: You’re passionate about building and improving products, balancing coding excellence with delivering real business value.
- Understand the Business Side: You can navigate the gap between what users want, what users need, and what we should build to drive value.
- Values Quality & Practicality: You take pride in writing clear, maintainable code but won’t hesitate to deliver a quick fix when necessary.
- Learns Quickly: When facing new technologies or challenges, you pick up the essentials fast and confidently work independently.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Professional Experience: 5+ years of full-time software development, including:
- 2+ years in a senior/lead role.
- 2+ years in Elixir (ideally Phoenix with LiveView, or verifiable open-source contributions).
- 2+ years in other languages/frameworks.
- Full-Stack Proficiency: Strong grasp of backend (PostgreSQL, Redis) and frontend (HTML, CSS, JS/TS).
- Deployment Experience: Familiarity with IaaS/PaaS platforms and containerised development.
- Excellent Communication: Able to discuss and translate technical requirements for non-technical stakeholders.
Bonus Points
- Experience building and maintaining B2B SaaS applications.
- Familiarity with Ruby on Rails, React, and TypeScript.
- Hands-on experience with Docker and Heroku.
Our Culture & Work Environment
- Collaborative & Supportive: As part of a small team, your ideas will be heard and your work celebrated.
- Remote-First & Global: Work from anywhere, as long as you can overlap with UK hours for team collaboration.
- Continuous Learning: We encourage experimentation, knowledge sharing, and professional growth.
Benefits & Work Style
- Salary: $40,000 – $60,000 (based on experience).
- Time Off: 20 days of holiday plus bank holidays.
- Equipment: All necessary hardware provided, including an ergonomic chair.
- Flexible Schedule: We work in two-week sprints with regular planning sessions to keep us agile and focused.
Interview Process
- Initial Call & Culture Discussion with our CEO to explore your background and ensure alignment on values and collaboration style.
- Technical Discussion & Assessment with our CTO to evaluate your coding style, problem-solving skills, and Elixir expertise.
- Final Discussion & Offer once we’re confident we’ve found the perfect fit.
