Play a key role in building and supporting Northwestern Mutual’s technology (both custom-developed and vended) for our Investment Operations and Investment Accounting teams. In this position, I work with engineers to build high-quality solutions, source and integrate investment data, and provide analytic capabilities to our business stakeholders.
To support our growing team, we seek a strong developer who is passionate about developing solutions that meet business needs, quick learner, enjoys daily interaction with business and technology teams, and is comfortable with both vended applications and custom development.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ability to be a self-starter and take initiative on high-priority items.
  • Establish, aggregate, and share team standards and best practices within the department.
  • Assess and provide solutions to system-wide architectural problems.
  • Develop and modernize technology solutions to support our Investments Function.
  • Implement solutions that streamline middle and back-office operations.
  • Work with both vendor-provided software and custom-built solutions.
  • Collaborate across engineering teams and business stakeholders to meet business needs and objectives.Make architecture decisions to support current and future business needs

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • 4-5 years of professional experience required.
  • 3-5+ years of experience working with modern engineering tools, languages, and practices, including Python/.Net/Java, JavaScript, and SQL , are required.
  • Preferred experience with warehousing solutions like Snowflake and DBT.
  • Preferred experience includes Batch (Control-M), AWS, Node.js, Docker, Terraform, Kubernetes, and React.
  • 3 years of experience in configuring and enhancing investments related to vended applications
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, ownership mindset, and continuous learning.
  • Experience developing solutions using agile methods.
  • Capable of communicating between product, engineering, and the business.
  • Solid understanding of design patterns, frameworks, and architecture.
  • Strong background in working with financial data.
