Description:

Title: Senior GIS Specialist, Archaeology
Location: Calgary, AB
Direct Report: Senior Archaeology Specialist
Operating across Western Canada, H3M supports multiple energy sectors, commercial real estate, forestry, municipalities, and utilities. We support pre-construction, construction, and post-construction requirements of projects, managing our client’s assets from inception through to their retirement and reclamation. Taking a pragmatic approach to balancing land stewardship, project development, and economic sustainability.
H3M Environmental Ltd. is seeking a motivated Senior GIS Specialist who will be re responsible for GIS program support, including drafting maps for projects, assisting with geospatial analysis and modeling for linear and surface infrastructure, database support, and adhering to cartographic standards. The candidate should be experienced with ESRI desktop and web-based products, to include ArcGIS Desktop/Pro, ESRI extensions, and ArcGIS Online.
Role and Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to:

Project Execution / Mapping (40%)

  • Create and maintain mapping templates in compliance with Regulatory bodies and H3M internal standards and regulations. This work will be reviewed by a senior professional.
  • Follow company guidelines and best practices while applying technical and professional knowledge to create leading edge solutions and products that streamline processes.
  • Regularly check internal notifications to ensure that projects are being completed and the project team are being notified in a timely matter.
  • Take ownership of projects through initiation to completion while assisting teammates with workloads to ensure priorities and deadlines are met.
  • Perform peer review QA/QC checks on all deliverables.
  • Export and submit deliverables to the reporting team.

Data Management (20%)

  • Review and maintain data management standards while regularly updating Standard Operating Procedures and keep the team informed when workflows change.
  • Organize and update datasets regularly as new information becomes available.
  • Manage and maintain geospatial data in both online portal and local geodatabase environments.
  • Work with junior/senior staff and project managers to analyze and interpret the results of the data.

Training/Mentorship (10%)

  • Ongoing training within the team to keep up to date with new technology and processes as they are implemented.
  • Mentorship of Junior Staff for complex processes and BD.

Client Communication (15%)

  • Actively engage with clients and stakeholders (internal and external) to fully understand task details, project spatial data, budgets and deadlines.
  • Maintain H3M professional communication standards.

Team Improvement/Process Optimization (5%)

  • Encourage brainstorming with teammates to explore ideas while maintaining an inclusive and constructive environment.
  • Research and implement new technologies that can be embedded in team practices to push boundaries with current and new processes.

Safety / Professional Development (5%)

  • Adhere to H3M’s Health & Safety regulations and maintain WorkHub compliance.
  • Actively engage in ongoing learning within the geospatial community to continuously develop skills and knowledge.

General BAU (5%)

  • Support the BD team by providing summaries of completed projects.
  • Submit timesheets on time and with accuracy.
  • Regularly check Bamboo and ensure that documents have been reviewed and submitted.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILL:

Experience and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or Technical Diploma from a recognized post-secondary technical institution, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years practical Geospatial industry experience
  • Experience in the Oil and Gas industry is required, particularly with producing deliverables as they pertain to the Archaeology sector.
  • Experience with the ESRI ArcGIS software suite
  • Knowledge of DLS and NTS land survey systems
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and command of the English language
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • High level organizational and time-management skills
  • High attention to detail and ability to multitask and prioritize deliverables
  • Proven ability to take initiative, be a self-starter and be a quick learner
  • FME ETL software and Python programming experience would be considered an asset
