Due to team expansion, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an established and highly motivated senior health and safety advisor to join our Trading Compliance department. Dealing with a wide range of compliance topics, you’ll be at the forefront of making Lidl the supermarket of choice for our customers. With your passion for safety, you’ll also endeavour to continue fostering a positive and safe culture for our colleagues.
You will be part of a team that manages and shapes all aspects of health and safety, food safety, fire safety and environmental protection policy within Lidl. You will be supporting our colleagues and ensuring safety is at the forefront of everything we do. Integrating effectively with our senior management teams to lead compliance and to ensure high colleague engagement across our sites.

What you’ll do

  • Deal with a wide range of legal and operational issues, including providing technical guidance and reactive support to maintain Lidl at the forefront of regulatory compliance
  • Use your technical knowledge to ensure that risk assessments and internal procedures remain current, compliant and effective
  • Develop corporate policy and test new initiatives
  • Provide technical support to key decision makers and influence projects to ensure health and safety is at the forefront of decision making
  • Conduct site visits, inspections, and audits across our stores, warehouses, offices and construction sites to ensure the necessary levels of understanding and compliance are in place
  • Produce, evaluate, and issue various analysis and performance reports
  • Undertake incident and accidents investigations
  • Represent and support the company during local authority investigations, enforcement and engagement
  • Liaise with external service providers to ensure the highest levels of service and statutory compliance

What you’ll need

  • Sound knowledge of UK H&S legislation and typically will hold the NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent (or working towards) and hold membership of a relevant industry body (e.g. IOSH)
  • Proven experience in a similar role ideally within a multi-site retail or warehousing environment
  • A strong technical knowledge across relevant health and safety legislation and ideally have knowledge in food safety, fire safety and construction related matters
  • Excellent communication skills with proven experience engaging with key internal and external stakeholders including colleagues at all levels, contractors, regulators and enforcement agencies
  • Be results orientated and comfortable communicating at all levels of seniority within a large organisation
  • Commercially aware and understand the current business challenges within the industry
  • Flexibility to travel to all areas within GB and must hold a full UK driving license
  • Effective time management skills, able to work within tight time frames with ability to plan and prioritise, and think clearly and strategically
  • Strong written skills and IT skills including proficient use of Word, Excel and PowerPoint as a minimum
  • A team player, who is flexible, adaptable and able to work well under pressure in a dynamic food retail and operational environment
