Description:
The Christie is an internationally and nationally recognised centre for the treatment of cancer and are leading experts in cancer care, research and education based in Manchester.
The Integrated Procedures Unit (IPU) has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, organised and experienced Healthcare Assistant to join our core nursing team.
This role is for 37.5 hours per week, worked over 4 days. IPU is open 07:30-19:30 Monday to Friday, so this is a great opportunity to achieve an excellent work-life balance whilst joining a dynamic nurse-led service.
Under the delegation of the Registered Nurse, undertake care delivery for patients across all the services on IPU including the procedure team, outpatient clinics, admissions, recovery bays and DOSA.
Act as a clinical role model for new staff, reflecting the philosophy, beliefs and standards of the department.
To effectively communicate with all members of the multidisciplinary team to promote a positive working partnership across all IPU services.
To maintain clinical competence in a wide range of clinical skills including venepuncture, cannulation, ECG, line access/care and support of ascitic drain care.
Rotate onto the day of surgery admissions unit.
Rotate into the endoscopy unit to support care delivery with cystoscopy lists.
Escalate concerns in a patient’s condition to senior members of the nursing team, medical staff.
To maintain full compliance with all essential training and clinical skills competencies.
To identify areas for self-development and training within the Performance Planning and Development Review structure.

The Integrated Procedures Unit (IPU) is a nurse-led, fast-paced and dynamic service. The unit consists of a procedures unit, interventional radiology unit, ultrasound room, surgical dressings clinic, outpatients clinic, day of surgery admissions unit, an operating theatre and second stage recovery bays.
